OBITUARY: Sheikh Abdinoor Sheikh Mohamed, a revered educator, Islamic scholar, and dedicated community servant in Kenya's education sector, has passed away on Sunday.
Sheikh Abdinoor devoted nearly four decades of his professional life to NEP Girls High School (North Eastern Province Girls High School) in Garissa, where he served as a committed teacher and mentor.
His long tenure at the institution left an indelible mark on generations of young women, empowering them through education during a period when access to schooling for girls in the region was limited.
Known for his patience, wisdom, and deep knowledge, he inspired students to pursue academic excellence while instilling strong moral and Islamic values.
Prior to and alongside his extensive service at NEP Girls High School, Sheikh Abdinoor served as the Principal of Young Muslim Madrassa from 1985 to 1989.
In this role, he played a pivotal part in nurturing Islamic education among the youth, guiding students in religious studies, Quranic teachings, and character development at a time when community-based madrassas were vital institutions for preserving faith and identity in the region.
A respected sheikh in his community, Sheikh Abdinoor combined secular education with profound Islamic scholarship, earning admiration for his humility, integrity, and unwavering commitment to uplifting the less privileged.
His contributions extended beyond the classroom, as he was a quiet but influential figure in promoting education, discipline, and unity among the people of North Eastern Kenya.
Sheikh Abdinoor Sheikh Mohamed retired after a lifetime of service, leaving behind a legacy of dedication that will continue to inspire educators, students, and community leaders.
He is survived by his family, former colleagues, and the many lives he touched through his teaching.
The funeral prayer will be held at Masjid Nur, South C at Dhuhr time. Burial ceremony to take place at Langata cemetery.
The NIS Director Nurdin PURE Disow on mabati just teleported me back to childhood in Garissa.
late senator Mzee Yusuf Haji, our neighbour & legend used to OWN every family wedding with the exact same Disow, same mabati stage, decorated bakora swinging like a boss in the air. Pure class, pure energy!

Yesterday, the Launch of the 16 days of Activism in Garissa County started with a procession walk from the children park to Garissa law court and later the main event took place at Garissa University.
Digital or physical — violence has no place. #EndViolence.”
In many households, children with special needs are hidden. Today we hosted a brave mum who refused to hide her son—and launched the powerful #DontHideMe campaign. Her courage is a reminder that every child deserves visibility, dignity, and love.
16 days of activism should be 365 days of activism.
Because abuse doesn't take a holiday.
Because survivors don't get a break.
Because violence happens every day in silence, in fear, behind closed doors.
If we truly want change, we must love it daily:

Ghana protects kente textiles fiercely, yet same Ghanaians misappropriate Somali Alindi, a vibrant, handwoven fabric tied to Somali identity. It’s hypocritical! Somalis should register Alindi’s IP to preserve its cultural value, not let it be seen as just “African” fabric. 🧵 #somali Alindi #CulturalHeritage
