@bryanrbeal@ThierryBorgeat When one of those companies said we'd all be living in the metaverse and lost 80 billion dollars re-creatinc Nintendo Mii avatars without legs...yes. These companies are deeply unserious and high on their farts.
@BarryDingleSak@ShitpostRock2 I'm staunchly anti-ai but after the sexual assault they let run rampant in their company, couldn't have happened to a worse group of people.
@Every7_Minutes@ShittyHaloTakes@nygma0451 Like, if you ignore the plot of Max Payne 3, you still have a lot of fun encounters and get to play with a unique gimmick while getting dragged along its corridors even if it's the weakest of its series.
TLOU basically doesn't have a gameplay identity if you remove its plot.
@nullWristMotion@Jim_Sonweed@prettycritical This is all before a middle eastern war skyrocketed their already absurd energy costs btw. Scam Altman's non-sensical plan for profitability wasn't even expected to turn a penny before 2030 and their operating costs just doubled without even expanding operations.
@nullWristMotion@Jim_Sonweed@prettycritical Even if it didn't hallucinate, the average person just isn't going to pay for a google search summarizer, especially in the quantities needed for any of these companies to have a hope at sustainability.
@Jim_Sonweed@nullWristMotion@prettycritical And think about that from like, an average internet user's perspective.
You wanna pay $20 a month for a google search that sometimes hallucinates cyanide into cake recipes and yes man's you into psychosis?
@Jim_Sonweed@nullWristMotion@prettycritical But even relative to those companies, the losses AI is operating at is ASTRONOMICAL by comparison.
Like, we're talking needing the entire US population paying monthly subs to barely break even.
@nullWristMotion@prettycritical And while local AI model hosting is an option for when Microsoft inevitably sends co-pilot the way of the Zune, I doubt valley girls are going to spin up local models and manually feed it the whole web to ask about keto dieting like they do with chat GPT.
@nullWristMotion@prettycritical If google, facebook, and Microsoft all died tomorrow then their services would disappear from the internet, but the internet would not be gone as a concept.
Peer to peer hosting and private run servers could still exist and be used without the tech giants.
