No one is more f%%lish than anyone who records themselves while crying — Nigeria media personality Joshua reacts to video of singer/comedian Dele mourning late Toluwanisings
A Nigerian media personality has criticised people who record themselves while crying, describing the act as “peak f%%lishness” and questioning the genuineness of their emotions.
Reacting to a video of singer and comedian Dele mourning late Toluwanisings, he argued that people who are genuinely overwhelmed by sadness or happiness would not remember to turn on their cameras to capture the moment.
According to him, recording oneself while crying raises questions about whether the person is genuinely emotional or simply acting for the camera.
“You want to cry, and then you suddenly remember, ‘Okay, let me open my camera. Let me press record.’ Then you start crying. Does that make any sense?” he asked.
He maintained that genuine emotions are not usually accompanied by the desire to document the moment, insisting that people who are deeply affected by sadness or happiness would not think about recording themselves.
“If you are genuinely crying or genuinely happy, you will not remember to record yourself. Anytime you are deeply emotional, whether you are sad or happy, and you suddenly remember to record yourself, that is peak f%%lishness or acting. You are acting,” he said.
The media personality, however, distinguished between recording oneself and having someone else capture an emotional moment, arguing that the former makes the display appear staged.
“It is a different thing if someone else records you, but for you to open your camera, press record, and then start crying? You are not crying genuinely. You are only acting,” he added.
He also expressed irritation at the trend, saying some people even hold their phones up for selfies while crying. He concluded by criticising men who engage in the practice, saying they annoy him even more than women.
“The men who do it irritate me even more. You are a man, not a woman. At this rate, we might as well give you a skirt to wear!” he said.
