Deepest condolences to President Sergio Mattarella and the people of Italy following the tragic diving incident in Vaavu Atoll, Maldives yesterday. We are deeply saddened by this tragedy, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased Italian, the missing four Italians and everyone affected.
The search for the 4 remaining missing divers remains our highest priority, and the Government of the Maldives appreciates the support from the Government of Italy to the ongoing extensive recovery operation.

As I conclude a successful State Visit to Sri Lanka, I depart with renewed resolve to further strengthen the close and longstanding relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. President of the Maldives Dr. Mohammed Muizzu to undertake a State Visit to Sri Lanka.

President of the Republic of the Maldives, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will undertake a State Visit to Sri Lanka from 4–5 May 2026, on the invitation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
This marks President Muizzu’s first visit to Sri Lanka since assuming office in 2023. During the visit, he is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Dissanayake on further strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are also expected to be signed, reflecting the shared commitment of both countries to deepen collaboration in various spheres.
President Muizzu will be accompanied by First Lady, Sajidha Mohamed, and several senior Cabinet Ministers including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and senior officials of the Government of Maldives.
Consul General Aminath Shifana attended the International Cargo Business Summit organized by FICCI in collaboration with CIAL.
Ms. Shifana also participated as a panelist to discuss the topic, “Tariff and Trade Agreement: Redefining Global Trade”.
Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives in the blast near Red Fort, Delhi this evening. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and good wishes for swift recovery of the injured. The Maldives stands in solidarity with the people and Government of India in this difficult time.
