Third, I think I’m concerned that ADAs reliance on peer review & academic research is slowing it down. As one that loves academics – I wanted to see this as an advantage but I think this is challenging me. I still love the ada project but I’m readjusting to favor sol now. 10/n
As I recently start studying crypto I had become an #ada and $sol bull with an #ada leaning. However, I have some concerns (which I'd love to be corrected on) regarding the #Cardano smart contract release and have revisited my long-term view on the third gen. #concurrency 1/n
Second, this puts a higher burden on developers which runs the risk of (in the short term) driving up development costs and discouraging near term development on ADA and time if of the essence for sol and ada to catch #eth while gas is high. 9/n
But - concurrency is an obvious issue for ANY smart contracting protocol and something a reasonable person would expect to be built into the architecture itself - in so far as it is NOT built into the architecture - ideally - ADA should have provided multiple clear solutions 8/n
First, after several years of lagging on smart contracts I think it is a bit odd to ask your to foist a major portion of your tech development on to your dapp developers without clear guidance. No doubt - this flexibility will make the system more scalable longer term...but 7/n
This provides dapp developers max flexibility, but, in doing so, makes the developers actually create their own concurrency/batching infrastructure. This isn’t at all a crippling problem for an individual developer to do. However, I have three concerns. 6/n
The VMs run the risk of increasing gas fees and reducing the ability for the system to mange parallel processes. Cardano’s solution eliminates the power-intensive and centralized virtual machines. 5/n
To back up, it appears that ADA's smart contracting will ask developers to solve the issue of concurrency on their own. This is in contrast to others. Eth and Sol solve concurrency with chain wide virtual machines. 3/n
I spent fair bit of time working through the #concurrency issues which came out of the testnet. After calling in a few ringers, I think the eUTOX solution that ADA is adopting might have some long term advantages however this launch is a bit disappointing to me. 2/n
@chrisdevlin7700 Eth isn’t fatally flawed - it needs its upgrade - and we hope that goes well - but #ada designed to keep gas low - and it has a vibrant native community’s - it should be taken seriously
@econoar Both #ETH2 and #ada are very valuable contributions to defi. I don’t think there is any value to hating on each other - there’s plenty of room for techs (and #solona as well) to improve global institutions.
