"The days of Indian primacy in Bangladesh are clearly over."

He also notes that India's standing in Bangladesh suffered greatly during the Hasina period. The presence of Hasina and her associates in India remains a direct impediment to better relations between the two countries. Neither government can ignore public opinion on this.

On the US-Bangladesh relationship, he is optimistic. Bangladesh's decision to negotiate a trade agreement with Washington signals the importance Dhaka places on that partnership. He specifically highlighted the Bangladeshi-American diaspora as having great potential to strengthen people-to-people ties.

Bangladesh is pursuing a balanced, independent foreign policy. Engaging Washington, Beijing, ASEAN, and the wider world on its own terms.

গতকাল ইরানের সর্বোচ্চ ধর্মীয় নেতা খামেনির কফিনে শ্রদ্ধা ও জানাজায় অংশ নিতে আসা বিভিন্ন দেশের প্রতিনিধিদলের উপস্থিতিতে পবিত্র কোরআন হতে নির্দিষ্ট আয়াত তেলাওয়াত করা হয়। রাজনৈতিক বিশ্লেষকরা সেসব আয়াত নিরীক্ষা করে মত দিয়েছেন যে প্রতিটি দেশের জন্যেই পৃথক-পৃথকভাবে তেলাওয়াত করা এসকল আয়াতের মাধ্যমে এক প্রকারের বার্তা প্রদান করা হয়েছে।

বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় সংসদের স্পীকার মেজর (অব.) হাফিজ উদ্দিন আহমেদ কফিনে শ্রদ্ধা জানাতে উপস্থিত হলে বাংলাদেশের জন্যে তেলাওয়াত করা হয় সূরা আল আহযাব এর ২৩ নম্বর আয়াত।

যার বাংলা অর্থ:

​ “মুমিনদের মধ্যে কতক আল্লাহর সাথে তাদের কৃত অঙ্গীকার সত্যে পরিণত করেছে। তাদের কেউ কেউ (শাহাদাতবরণ করে) নিজেদের শপথ পূর্ণ করেছে, আর কেউ কেউ (শাহাদাতের) প্রতীক্ষায় আছে। এবং তারা তাদের অঙ্গীকারে সামান্যতমও পরিবর্তন করেনি।”

উল্লেখ্য, উহুদের যুদ্ধের সময় রাসূলুল্লাহ (সাঃ) এর সাথে যুদ্ধে যাওয়ার আগে অনেক সাহাবী আল্লাহর কাছে অঙ্গীকার করেছিলেন যে, তাঁরা যুদ্ধক্ষেত্র থেকে পালাবেন না, শহীদ হওয়া পর্যন্ত লড়াই করবেন।

সাদ ইবন মুয়াজ (রা.)-সহ কয়েকজন সাহাবী এই অঙ্গীকার পূর্ণ করেছিলেন। তিনি যুদ্ধে শহীদ হয়েছিলেন।

একই ধারাবাহিকতায়, সৌদি প্রতিনিধিদলের সময় বদর যুদ্ধের দুই বাহিনী সংক্রান্ত আয়াত (আলে ইমরান ৩:১৩) তেলাওয়াত করা হয়, ‍যা যুদ্ধে মুখোমুখি দুই বাহিনী সম্পর্কিত আয়াত — একটি মুমিন, অন্যটি কাফির। সূরা আলে ইমরান ৩:১৩ — বদর যুদ্ধের প্রসঙ্গে: “তোমাদের জন্য নিদর্শন ছিল সেই দুই দলে, যারা পরস্পরের সম্মুখীন হয়েছিল — এক দল আল্লাহর পথে লড়ছিল, অন্য দল ছিল কাফির।”

তুরস্কের প্রতিনিধিদলের সময় তেলাওয়াত করা হয় সেই আয়াত যা “বসে থাকা” লোকদের ওপর জিহাদকারীদের মর্যাদা দেয়। সূরা আন-নিসা ৪:৯৫ — “আল্লাহ জান-মাল দিয়ে জিহাদকারীদেরকে বসে থাকা লোকদের ওপর মর্যাদায় শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব দিয়েছেন।”

লেবাননের প্রতিনিধিদের সামনে তেলাওয়াত করা হয় এমন লোকদের কথা, যাদের কাছে ত্যাগ চাওয়া হলে তারা কৃপণতা করে। সূরা মুহাম্মাদ ৪৭:৩৭-৩৮ — “তিনি যদি তোমাদের কাছে তা চাইতেন ও চাপ দিতেন, তোমরা কৃপণতা করতে।”

হিজবুল্লাহকে বলা হয়েছে: “দুর্বল হয়ো না, দুঃখ কোরো না — তোমরাই বিজয়ী/শ্রেষ্ঠ।

”সূরা আলে ইমরান ৩:১৩৯ — “তোমরা হীনবল হয়ো না, দুঃখিতও হয়ো না; তোমরাই শ্রেষ্ঠ, যদি তোমরা মুমিন হও।”

ইয়েমেনের হুথি প্রতিনিধিদলের উদ্দেশ্যে তেলাওয়াত করা হয়েছে মুমিনদের প্রশংসাসূচক আয়াত, যারা যুদ্ধ করেছে কিন্তু দুর্বল হয়নি। সূরা আলে ইমরান ৩:১৪৬ — “আল্লাহর পথে তাদের ওপর যা আপতিত হয়েছে, তাতে তারা হীনবল হয়নি, দুর্বলও হয়নি, নতিস্বীকারও করেনি।”

কাতার সরকারের প্রতিনিধিদের সামনে তেলাওয়াত করা হয়েছে ক্ষমা ও আল্লাহর অনুগ্রহ সংক্রান্ত একটি আয়াত — যা দেশটির মধ্যস্থতাকারী ভূমিকার প্রতি ইঙ্গিত হিসেবে বিবেচনা করা যেতে পারে। সূরা আলে ইমরান ৩:১৫২-এর শেষাংশ — “তিনি তোমাদের ক্ষমা করেছেন; আল্লাহ মুমিনদের প্রতি অনুগ্রহশীল।”
