An aircraft may crab ~30° into the wind while maintaining a straight ground track the pilot compensates for the wind.

@Lif3Sci @clashreport The fact that it’s a narrow valley doesn’t magically eliminate wind. Air still moves, and terrain can channel, accelerate, deflect, or make the flow turbulent. A wind vector is simply the relative motion of the air mass, not something that requires an open plain.
