Imagine resigning from your job after receiving an offer from a company
only to be told, "Sorry, the business team did not approve it."

Something very similar happened to a friend of mine.

A friend referred him to Teradata.

He cleared the entire interview process

DSA Round
System Design Round
Hiring Manager Round

After clearing all the rounds, HR sent him an offer.

He already had another offer, so he negotiated with HR.

Teradata revised the offer and sent him a new one.

He was told that once the business approval was completed, the relocation team would contact him.

Trusting the offer and everything communicated by HR,

he resigned from his current company and started serving his notice period.

The entire interview, negotiation, offer process had already taken almost a month.

Then, suddenly, HR called.

"The business team is not approving this offer."

That’s it.

Offer cancelled.

No concrete reason.
No alternative role.
No further negotiation.

And the most worrying part ?

He had already resigned.

If he did not have another offer in hand,

he could have literally ended up unemployed simply because the company changed its internal decision.

Yes, business requirements can change.

But candidates also make major life decisions based on these offers.

They resign.
They turn down other opportunities.
They prepare to relocate.
They make financial commitments.

For the company, cancelling an offer might just be an internal decision,

But for the candidate, that same decision can completely derail their career plans.

Perhaps the harshest corporate lesson here is

Until every internal approval is completely finalized, never treat a job offer as 100% guaranteed.

Because a company can cancel an offer in a single meeting,

while the candidate may have already taken the biggest next step in their life based on that offer.
