2 Rajput at Nam Ka Chu:An excerpt from the book "1962 The War That Was Not " by Shiv Kunal Verma. The battle was fought on 20th October 1962.

Of its effective strength of 513,2 Rajput had 282 killed including 4 officers and 7 JCOs.81 were wounded and captured .90 others,including three officers and two JCOs, were not wounded but were overpowered ;sixty others got away with Eipe.
The exact Chinese casualties will never be known ,but there is an indication in Rikh's report that was written after his return from captivity to India.'As a prisoner of war,I was personally interrogated by the Chinese interpreters in the camp.They asked me on several occasions what were the characteristics of the Rajput battalion as different from the other troops in the Indian Army.I enquired of them the reason why they were asking me these questions.They finally told me that it was the first battle on 20 October 1962 that the Chinese Army had suffered the maximum casualties of all the fighting in NEFA.These casualties had been inflicted on them by my battalion .
" The unit was short of equipment , ammunition , winter clothing , defence stores but was not short on courage, bravery and the fighting spirit. They fought against odds but made the Chinese troops pay heavily in body count. It is this Josh and attitude that is the hallmark of the Army ". Join me in saluting the brave who gave their all. Today as we celebrate Diwali - let us spare a moment to remember the brave who perished.
