@KTB_500 It’s because there’s little room for career recovery after failure. Honest winning demands risk taking and that sometimes means you lose. But if your career never recovers after you fail than the Army incentives theater. And the troops see right through it.
@TheBuddyCSM The biscuits and gravy at Benning during basic was the best morale boost you could get. You could’ve shot a 12 or get smoked for hours and it would still be the best day ever.
@Snakeeater36 To be fair to SOF all of the Army is experiencing these same challenges. We have to trust in the junior and mid-level leaders who are coming up and aware of these challenges. They’ll have the solutions and turn the ship around.
@KTB_500 The most prestigious job on the German General Staff was the Chief of Railway Operations. Railhead is a grueling task with a lot of moving parts. It’s great to see recognition of this critical work!
@infantrydort In a democratic society everyone is allowed to have and express opinions on war. The military is not a separate class cordoned off from the public. Many societies have made that mistake at their own peril.
@KTB_500@menotyou1941@davis_winkie All of 3ID should be in Poland. It’s the red-headed stepchild of the 18th Airborne Corps. Gives EUCOM an armored division to deter Russia and train with European allies. Germany is planning a massive rearmament and it would be beneficial to show good faith with that effort.
@KTB_500@davis_winkie Agree with the ABCT OPTEMPO being unsustainable and the need for forward brigade or division in EUCOM. That’s a major pro. The con I see is not notifying Poland and the other Eastern European allies. They’re very stalwart allies. We owe them a heads up when something 1/2
@TheBuddyCSM The NCO “stood on business” (as the youth say) instead of letting a LTC intimidate her. And they say the NCO Corps has gone soft. You love to see it.
@KTB_500 Great writing. In an age of EW and constant surveillance we can’t assume we’ll have reliable communications. Platoons will have to operate in the dark, and be able to accomplish the mission. Do we trust our PLs/PSGs to do that? I think a lot of them would tell you no.
@KTB_500 Reading The Guns of August right now about the opening days of WW1. It astonishes me that every nation’s respective General Staff refused to change their established war plans and timetables. Even when Kings and Presidents demanded it because of changing political situations.
@trueliberal1848 Lee was great at tactics but failed at strategy. His magnum opus- Chancellorsville didn’t result in any change to the overall political situation. At Geattysburg he ordered the disastrous Pickett’s Charge. Overland is impressive because he lasted so long.
