I should’ve read the OMEGA project paper a long time ago. There is SO much cool stuff in here. I swear that if you are weather nerd (which 90% of y’all are) this will be one of the most interesting things you’ve ever read. It’s super fascinating to see what the SPC’s latest methodology is to differentiate between a moderate risk event and a high risk. It’s also a good reminder to everybody that they aren’t simply looking at CAM reflectivity to determine if a setup is high risk caliber, they are playing 4D chess with some of these methods. They literally used the 1974 Super outbreak as a baseline for an algorithm to determine the intensity of tornado outbreaks (with other factors of course) to then feed into another algorithm to determine if they should issue a high risk or not. They also go into great detail about the 500 mb trough jet streak translation speed theory, why it matters and proof that it does.
