The upside of the pandemic was I was able to devote more time to a weekly comic and be part of a creator community, but now I am back working on-site at my day job and it's busy as ever. I do hope to be able to make art and comics again soon. I sorely miss it! (2/2)
Sorry I have been so MIA the past year. My life has been pulled in many different directions, my laptop broke, my house constantly needs work...but the upside is that my social life is back and I got to travel a lot. (1/2)
@webcomicchat A5 #webcomicchat a common scene set-up in a short comedy strip is a comparison between two situations, and maybe some pop culture or current event content thrown in
@webcomicchat A4 #webcomicchat they can be a crutch if relied upon as formulaic plot devices, even if switching out characters and scenarios. A lot of creators can be tempted to put out a certain story for easy money/followers, but maybe it's not the story in their heart they want to tell...
@webcomicchat A3 #webcomicchat I see this time and again with the romance genre, esp. on Webtoons. People love a story of a person who feels like an weirdo, and meets someone equally as weird as them...but not without some awkwardness and maybe a love triangle thrown in
@webcomicchat A2 #webcomicchat Yes, if it can help me relate to an audience. It's a constant battle between wanting to be original, but understanding what people who like a certain genre want. I create humor comics, so I look for joke presentation that makes people laugh
@webcomicchat A1 #webcomicchat To me, trope is a recurring archetype independent of genre, but it may be more apparent in certain genres. Genre conventions are related more to plot and story-telling devices. Never thought about it much honestly :p
