Live wisely. Live responsibly.

Do not seek to be free of the problems. Work to be stronger than the problems.

A life with no problems would be a life with no opportunities for growth or achievement. That’s not what you want, and it is certainly not realistic.

In the real world there are difficult problems, and there will always be. Yet there are also countless possibilities for progress and true fulfillment.

Don’t waste your time fantasizing about a life free of problems. Instead, use your imagination and your efforts to transform those problems into positive value.

Embrace each situation as it is, along with all the problems. Accept that the problems exist, and you can then begin to successfully work through them.

Life will always be challenging in one way or another. So rise to the challenges and use your unique set of abilities to make life great.

You want the new job. The bigger house. More money. More recognition.

But have you ever stopped to ask yourself what you actually want from them?

Maybe the job is not what you want. You want to feel capable, respected, or secure.

Maybe it is not the house. You want the feeling of having arrived in life.

Maybe it is not more money. You want freedom from the fear of not having enough.

We chase the thing without understanding the feeling we expect it to give us.

And once we get it, the feeling fades. The mind adjusts, and we begin chasing something else.

In 1978, researchers Philip Brickman, Dan Coates, and Ronnie Janoff-Bulman studied lottery winners to understand whether a sudden increase in wealth made people happier.

The winners were not significantly happier than those who hadn't won. They also found less pleasure in ordinary experiences, like talking with a friend.

The reward had changed their circumstances. It hadn't permanently changed how they experienced life.

Neuroscience offers another piece of the puzzle.

Research by Wolfram Schultz and his colleagues showed that dopamine neurons respond strongly to unexpected rewards. As we learn to expect a reward, the response changes. What once excited us eventually becomes something we take for granted.

The thing we wanted becomes familiar. The mind moves on to the next thing.

Advaita invites us to look even deeper.

In the 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶, the Advaita text attributed to Vidyaranya, happiness experienced through objects is examined through the idea of 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮.

Consider what happens when you finally get something you have wanted for a long time.

For a moment, the wanting stops. The mind becomes quiet, and you experience happiness.

You attribute that happiness to the thing you acquired.

But was the happiness in the object itself? Or did the object bring a temporary end to the restlessness of wanting?

Advaita asks us to question this assumption. Perhaps we keep searching outside because we haven't understood our own relationship with desire, the mind, and happiness.

This doesn't mean you should stop wanting things, earning money, building a career, or pursuing your ambitions.

It means you should understand what you are really pursuing.

The next time you want something, pause and ask yourself:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼 𝗜 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲?

Security? Freedom? Recognition? Belonging? Peace?

Then ask a second question:

𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?

If you want financial security, work towards it. If you want to feel respected, understand where that need comes from. If you want peace, ask whether another purchase, achievement, or hour of scrolling will actually bring it.

Sometimes the thing you want is exactly what you need. Sometimes there is another way. And sometimes, what you are searching for cannot be secured by acquiring anything at all.

The point is not to abandon your desires. It is to stop pursuing them blindly.

𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁. 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘁.

Because when you understand the feeling you are chasing, you can finally decide whether the thing you are chasing is worth pursuing.

We often open a reel thinking, “I just need a small break.”

One reel becomes five. Five becomes twenty. And before you realise it, an hour is gone.

But here's the strange part:

You don't feel rested.

You feel just as tired, and somehow your mind feels even more restless.

We mistake distraction for rest.

Watching reels may take you away from work for an hour, but it doesn't necessarily give your mind a break.

Sometimes, a real break is simply putting the phone down.

We don't wake up one day and suddenly become a different person.

It happens slowly.

What we keep thinking,
what we keep doing,
and what we stop questioning
eventually shapes us.
So if we're not consciously evolving,
we're still changing — just unconsciously.

𝗗𝗼 𝗡𝗮𝗮𝗺 𝗝𝗮𝗽. 𝗗𝗼 𝗶𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄.

You must have heard Premanand Ji Maharaj saying this in almost every satsang.

Most people hear this and see it as a spiritual instruction meant for devotees. Some agree and move on. Very few actually think about what happens when you practice it — at the level of the brain, the nervous system, the body.

To understand Naam Jap, we first need to understand a concept in neuroscience called the Default Mode Network (DMN).

The DMN is a network in the brain that becomes active when we are not concentrating on a specific task.

Researchers from Harvard found that people spend nearly 47% of their waking hours thinking about something other than what they are doing. The mind keeps moving between the past and the future, and this constant wandering is strongly associated with lower happiness.

The problem is that when the DMN becomes overactive, it is often associated with anxiety, stress, rumination, and emotional instability.

Now think about what happens during Naam Jap.

You keep bringing your attention back to one name.
Again.
And again.
And again.
This repetition gives the wandering mind something to hold on to.
Research on meditation and mantra-based practices suggests that repetitive chanting can reduce activity in the DMN, helping the mind become quieter and more present.
As the mind settles, the body follows.

Regular chanting activates the parasympathetic nervous system — the body's natural relaxation mechanism.
The result?
• Reduced stress
• Lower anxiety
• Better emotional stability
• Improved focus and clarity
• Less reactive decision-making

There is another layer that I found interesting.

Past Life Memories and Impressions.

Many spiritual traditions suggest that the mind carries deep-rooted past life impressions that influence our behavior without us being consciously aware of them.
For those interested in exploring this idea scientifically, there is an interesting book called Life Before Life by Jim B. Tucker.
The book summarizes decades of research conducted at the University of Virginia into children who reported memories of previous lives. The researchers documented thousands of cases with recurring patterns that remain difficult to fully explain through conventional models of consciousness.
Whether one accepts the idea of past lives or not, the question is worth considering:
If we carry impressions that shape our thoughts, fears, and reactions, how do we gradually transform them?
Naam Jap may be one answer.
Modern neuroscience suggests that repeated chanting can reshape neural pathways over time. The brain gradually moves away from habitual fear-based thinking and develops calmer, more stable patterns of attention.

Perhaps this is why saints have been recommending the same practice for centuries.

A simple name.
Repeated with sincerity.
Every day.

Sometimes the deepest transformations begin with the simplest practices.

Desire is the ultimate force that drives us. The bigger the desire, the greater the action we are willing to take—and the greater the action, the greater the achievement we get
