Voting went on smoothly without any glitches at the Johannesburg Correctional Centre, commonly known as Sun City. All registered inmates were able to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
We are starting the day at the Kgoshi Mampuru II Correctional Centre to give encouragement to the officials and offenders who are taking part in the 6th democratic elections.
Opening yet another new generation correctional facility that focuses on rehabilitation and preparing offenders for better reintegration into society. The days of warehousing offenders in conditions that promote recidivism are in the past.
We are saddened to hear about the tragic passing of @CityPressOnline journalist, Ngoako Modjadji. We last met when he came to our offices a fortnight ago. He was a dedicated professional. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues. May his soul rest in peace.

My colleague, Public Works Minister, Thulas Nxesi, joins in our excitement this morning as handover a new state of the art court to the Plettenberg Bay community.
Today we officially opened the newly upgraded Standerton Correctional Centre. The project, which commenced in December 2013, has increased the bed space capacity at the centre from 500 to the current 1 486 inmates.
