Today, the UK Government has announced that there will be a TOTAL BAN on the sale of bagged peat compost. We’ve been fighting for this since 1990 and recognise it is an important step in the protection of our peatlands. (1/5)

@herdyshepherd1 @TimNicholsonWWF Great thread James. I work for Derbyshire WT, get a lot of questions from farmers on what they can do for biodiversity and we're always looking for ways to fit trees and habitats in around grazing land without them losing productivity. Keep up the good work.

We want high welfare standards
We want high environmental standards
We want safe food

But will import from anywhere with lower standards - exporting untold harm - and undercutting our higher cost system

We want a system that pays for nature but haven’t designed it yet

Conservation movement have their eyes completely off the ball - rural Britain is about the intensify massively to compete globally under free trade

Rewilding is great - but a complete distraction from this, which affects all farmland
