20 जुलाई को जंतर-मंतर पर शांतिपूर्ण प्रदर्शन कर रहे साहिल पर पुलिस ने पैलेट गन से हमला किया। छर्रों से बुरी तरह घायल साहिल की एक आँख की रौशनी खतरे में है।

शांतिपूर्ण प्रदर्शन के खिलाफ ऐसी बर्बरता कोई कानूनी कार्रवाई नहीं, एक गंभीर अपराध है। इस क्रूरता के लिए न गृह मंत्री अमित शाह ने छात्रों को कोई सफाई दी, न प्रधानमंत्री ने उनसे माफ़ी मांगी।

अब जब साहिल न्याय के लिए FIR दर्ज कराना चाहता है तो वो भी नहीं करने दिया जा रहा। इस तरह संविधान और संवैधानिक अधिकारों को कुचला जा रहा है।

A lot of so-called liberals/seculars are saying in the comments, “We don’t support Sharjeel because he doesn’t align with our ideology or because of his speech.”

But since when did the demand for justice become conditional on ideology?

Sharjeel Imam went on hunger strike in jail for Akhil Gogoi, despite Gogoi being a pro-NRC activist whose politics were completely opposite to Sharjeel’s. Yet Sharjeel stood up for him because he believed that justice should not depend on ideology.

As for his speech, Sharjeel has already been granted bail in the speech-related case. The Allahabad High Court noted that, on an undisputed basis, he neither called anyone to bear arms nor was violence incited as a result of his speech.

He remains in custody in the Delhi riots larger-conspiracy case. Sharjeel was arrested on January 28, 2020, while the Delhi violence took place in late February 2020. The trial has not yet commenced.

So how has he already become “guilty” in the eyes of people who claim to believe in democracy and due process?

Justice should not depend on whether someone fits your political or ideological preferences.

इस दुखद मामले में सबसे शर्मनाक बात है कि राज्य सरकार खुद आज तक उस "VIP" को संरक्षण दे रही है। क्यों? क्योंकि वह BJP-RSS का बड़ा नेता है।

यही BJP की विकृत मानसिकता है बलात्कारियों और अपराधियों को बचाना, उनका राजनीतिक संरक्षण करना, यहां तक कि बलात्कार के दोषियों का फूल-मालाओं से स्वागत करना। दुनिया में सबसे घिनौने इंसान वो होते हैं जो बलात्कारियों की रक्षा करते हैं और BJP में ऐसे लोगों की भरमार है।

भारत तब तक आगे नहीं बढ़ सकता, जब तक महिलाओं को पुरुषों के इस्तेमाल की वस्तु समझने वाली यह अमानवीय मानसिकता खत्म नहीं होती। भारत तभी आगे बढ़ेगा, जब भारत की महिलाएं आगे बढ़ेंगी - सम्मान, सुरक्षा, समानता और न्याय के साथ।
