He legit doesn’t and that “Mako is boring or moody” pisses me off so much because he’s the only one in Korra’s team who actually understands the weight of consequences.

While everyone else was “finding themselves”, Mako was a realist shaped by the streets. His pragmatism wasn't a lack of personality, it was wjat he needed to be to keep Bolin safe.

In a group filled with a hot-headed Avatar, an idiot little brother, and the richest girl in town, Mako was the only one raised in systemic poverty and street level crime. This shaped a character who didn't have the luxury of “finding himself”. He had to be the adult from age eight. Unlike Sokka, who had a tribe to lean on, Mako had no one but his brother, forcing him to do whatever it took to survive the Triads. His “stiff” personality isn't a lack of humor but the result of a kid who never got to be a child because he was too busy being a grown up

You know I used to be a korra hater…. I used to hate how abrasive she was, How reckless she was, how it seemed like she was this mess of a person.

And then I realized… that was the point. She’s the opposite of Aang… she was made to be everything he wasn’t and to then grow from all of it. Shes a flawed character who you are supposed grow to like throughout the series and to try to understand. Did they do the best job of making you like her??? Welll…. That’s up to you. I think it took a little too long for her to grow up personally but after rewatching the show as an adult I now love Korra for her.

But god was it hard when she pulled shit like this off… the immaturity was so hard to move past for me but as I got older I actually understood it more and more. Korra isn’t a good Avatar.. she’s far from the best but she was a good person that struggled with her own self worth. Which she TIED to being the avatar and when we realized it’s a lot harder then just being strong and beating the bad guys she staggered and kept staggering.

I highly recommend if you have watched the show already and didn’t like it to give it another watch but put yourself in a more understanding headspace.

Korra was a locked away Avatar with no access to the outside world until she was literally a teenager. When she reached the outside world she had to grapple with the fact that it “supposedly” did not need her and everything she was taught was outdated. Her villains were BRUTAL. She literally fought the spirit of evil itself. She was preyed upon numerous times even by her own family. Lost her bending, lost her past lives unintentionally, survived a poisoning and paralysis, overcame PTSD, and is a representation of what it means to practice personal forgiveness & empathy for your mistakes. Also Bisexual diva. Whats not to defend?
