3 Different Ways to Use Gouging Fire in Regulation F
Speed Booster Support:
Gouging Fire @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Level: 50
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 4 Def / 44 SpD / 204 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Breaking Swipe
- Heat Crash
- Howl
- Burning Bulwark/Protect
Speed Booster Support Breakdown:
Breaking Swipe + Howl seems very cool on Gouging Fire. The speed allows us to outspeed Adamant Choice Scarf Urshifu. This would make a great partner with Urshifu as well, as we can Howl + Surging Strikes. I can also see this Pokemon working with Chien-Pao and Ogerpon-Wellspring. The spread is nothing fancy, simple max HP, outspeed adamant max speed Urshifu, then SpD dump. SpD was chosen to dump over any other stat because Gouging Fire's SpD is not naturally the best. I think Burning Bulwark is a double-edged sword. Not being able to Protect against Status can hurt you a lot in specific matchups, such as Amoonguss. Tera Grass was chosen to improve the Amoonguss matchup.
Rocky Helmet Support:
Gouging Fire @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Protosynthesis
Level: 50
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 52 Atk / 148 Def / 52 SpD / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
- Breaking Swipe
- Heat Crash
- Howl
- Burning Bulwark/Protect
Rocky Helmet Support Breakdown:
This version has the same moves, but the item and EVs change how this one plays entirely. The bulk allows us to survive 252+ Mystic Water Tera-Water Rain-boosted Urshifu Rapid Strikes. In addition, non-tera, non-rain-boosted Mystic Water Surging Strikes is a 3HKO. This means we will always win the 1v1 against non-tera Urshifu. This spread also outspeeds Scarf Urshifu under tailwind. The attack allows us to KO (most) Flutter Mane with a +1 Heat Crash. The rest of the remaining EVs were simply dumped into SpD.
Dragon Dance Sweeper:
Gouging Fire @ Clear Amulet
Ability: Protosynthesis
Level: 50
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 76 HP / 204 Atk / 4 Def / 4 SpD / 220 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Heat Crash
- Tera Blast/Breaking Swipe
- Dragon Dance
- Protect
Dragon Dance Sweeper Breakdown:
Clear Amulet was chosen to block Intimidate and Parting Shot. This is very nice inside of an Incineroar-focused meta. I prioritized Offense and Speed over bulk, as we want to get sweeps. The attack allows us to OHKO bulky Urshifu with a +1 Tera Gass Tera Blast. (188/4, the spread that lives Wild Charge from Iron Hands). The speed allows us to outspeed Flutter Mane and Iron Bundle after a Dragon Dance. If you are not running Tera Blast, we can decrease the attack by a large margin. This will allow us to get more bulk. If you were to do this, I would suggest lowering it down to 36+ and dumping the rest into HP. This lets us hit a low stat bump and then we can focus on surviving attacks. Protect over Burning Bulwark was chosen for more consistency.
Tips for using Gouging Fire:
- Rillaboom is my go-to partner. The ability to Fake Out can allow Gouging Fire to do what it wants to, set-up. Fake Out + Dragon Dance is hard to stop. Fake Out + Howl can power up Rillaboom's Grassy Glides to push it over the edge.
- Chien-Pao is amazing with Gouging Fire as well. Sword of Ruin can amp up your damage a lot. Howl + Breaking Swipes in Sword of Ruin can be really hard to stop.
- Amoonguss could also be a solid partner on the Dragon Dance set. You could also add an Iron Hands to have Fake Out + Rage Powder/Spore pressure. As we've learned from Roaring Moon, this combination is very solid. If I were to expand upon this, I would add a Landorus-T to this core.
- Be careful of Landorus-I! Construct your team to have at least 2 answers for it. This is also why Chien-Pao is a great partner.

Regulation F Entei Spread & Guide
Entei @ Assault Vest
Ability: Inner Focus
Level: 50
Tera Type: Normal/Grass/Water
EVs: 44 HP / 212 Atk / 116 Def / 4 SpD / 132 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Extreme Speed
- Stomping Tantrum
- Stone Edge/Trailblaze/Iron Head/Bulldoze/Flame Charge/Giga Impact/Snarl/Tera Blast
Benchmarks:
- Sacred Fire OHKOs 236/156+ Amoonguss with Sword of Ruin
- Outspeeds 252 Modest max speed Gholdengo
- Flutter Mane Shadow Ball 3HKO from Choice Specs (vs mid-ranged SpA investment)
- 244+ Tera-Water Mystic Water Urshifu Surging Strikes after a Tera Normal is a 6.3% chance to OHKO. 244+ is the investment Urshifu needs to hit to OHKO Chien-Pao with Surging Strikes
Why is Entei good right now?
- Inner Focus makes you immune to Intimidate and being flinched. It's a great check for Incineroar.
- Sacred Fire has a 50% chance to burn. No physical attacker can safely switch into it
- Potential to Extreme Speed sweep with Tera-Nomal Sword of Ruin boosted Extreme Speeds
Which Pokemon work best with Entei?
- Chien-Pao to power up your Sacred Fires and Extreme Speeds
- Ogerpon Wellspring to have a ground resist and redirection from Surging Strikes.
- Prankster Sunny Day Pokemon to power up Entei and lower opposing Water types damage output
- Flutter Mane to hit Dragon types that can switch into your Sacred Fires
How do I use Entei?
- It's a great lead that can KO frail Pokemon (Chien-Pao, Flutter Mane, Whimsicott, etc). Look to trade damage for a KO
- Avoid needlessly taking a Surging Strikes. Have a team that can respond properly to Urshifu Rapid Strikes
- When nothing is pressuring it, go for burns. No physical attacker can safely switch into a Sacred Fire
- Late-game win condition with Extreme Speed. Look for sweep opportunities.
Which Tera Should I go?
- Normal if you want potency with your Extreme Speeds
- Grass if you want to resist Surging Strikes, ignore Rage Powder, and become immune to Spore
- Water if you want a solid neutral typing into a lot of the meta-game
Which Moveset should I go with?
Extreme Speed, Sacred Fire, and Stomping Tantrum are all locked in. Extreme Speed and Sacred Fire are self-explanatory, and Stomping Tantrum gives us a solid way to hit opposing Fire Types for consistent damage.
As for the last move, here's the breakdown for each option:
Stone Edge: Great for strong damage into Fire and Flying types. Can be risky to go for.
Trailblaze: Seems solid on Tera Grass. Great to hit water-types and boost our speed for an end-game board
Iron Head: If you need an extra way to hit Flutter Mane, this may be the best option. Sword of Ruin boosted Iron Head will OHKO most Flutter Mane
Bulldoze: Speed control. Could be cool on Tailwind teams
Giga Impact: Single target nuke with Tera-Normal
Snarl: Special damage reduction. Very solid option
Tera Blast: Could be good on Tera Water to hit Incineroar. Seems decent on Tera Grass as well if you want a higher BP move over Trailblaze
Pro-Tips:
- Prankster Sunny Day seems very solid with Entei. Tornadus/Whimsicott and Entei can sweep from turn 1. You also disable Entei's weakness to Water. Choice Band may be worth considering if you go with a comp like this.
- Chien-Pao really amps Entei's damage output. I think Chien-Pao is what makes Entei so overwhelming. Without Sword of Ruin, Entei becomes average.
- Play smartly into Amoonguss. Without Sword of Ruin or with a bulkier physical spread, they can survive our Sacred Fire.
