@LizzieMarbach This is an odd question for Orthodox/Catholics because it is Tradition that canonized and recognized the books that we accept as Holy Scripture. You cannot accept the New Testament as "God breathed" while rejecting/undermining the Church that identified these books as Apostolic.

@LizzieMarbach Recognizing Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah prophesied of old is something that came *before the new testament,* not after.
This is why no Christian in the early church believed that Scripture, apart from Apostolic Tradition, was the sole, infallible rule of faith.

For what it's worth, as a convert of many years, I would recommend attending services regularly, keeping a daily rule of prayer (even if it's short), and asking a knowledgeable priest which books you should read.
