A terminally ill person with a few weeks left to live busy laughing at me on Twitter for having refugee status is one of those ironies of life one struggles to explain.

I hope his friends parroting "Everybody will die" listen to their own words and catch the import of that statement. Because yes, everybody WILL die, and everybody will be equal in death.

But you know what? Not everybody's memories will be equal after death - and that's the real test of a person's life. If you like, continue making excuses for terrible behaviour by chanting, "Everybody will die."

When you die, it is the impact you made on the living that will pass judgment on you. Your death does not absolve you of your actions while living.

Everybody WILL die, so you better live as if you might die tomorrow. Live a life that will not require people to debate about whether to mourn you when you die. Live a life that will be remembered for good by the living. Live a life that will elicit testimonies from people when you die, not a life that will leave your friends and family explaining and explaining.

Everybody will die, so LIVE LIKE YOU KNOW YOU WILL DIE.

My advice to Young Healthcare Professionals:

1. Around your final year or after 1 year internship, decide early where you want to be and create a five years strategic plan on how to get there (practice?, research?, corporate world?)

2. Spend at least one month to research online the career options in the space and align them with your personality.

3. You might want to know what you are really good at. For example, an introverted person who is very detailed and logical should not be customer facing but will be very good at research work or analytics.

4. Start looking for opportunities and mentors. Take courses to gain knowledge and skills in that area. Offer to volunteer even if it is for free in relevant organisations.

5. Stick to the goal,don't lose focus.
The most dangerous people in the world are those who are determined to succeed no matter what.
