#UWJ201 #319 I thought at the Jay-Z campaign was super interesting and one of the best collaborations I have seen. Why do you think that this appealed to consumers? Do you think it would be just as successful it wasn't already known, Jay-Z?
@AaronMeier14#UWJ201 #319 One example I can think of is companies using coronavirus to appeal to their customers by saying "I am here for you" or wearing masks in the ads. I always think of the Extra Gum proposal ad, which I think is a great example of how emotion makes a brand known
@emma34130349 I think that emotions influence how we perceive advertisements. Because ever human has different experiences, they interpret all media different and its impossible to escape. One example is fear during the pandemic drove up sales and some companies played off it. #UWJ201 #319
@ChenpengWan#UWJ201 #319 I completely agree. It is hard to constantly apply my knowledge of bias and media perceptions to everything I come across. This is why mass media has become so influential- its convenient until you have to fact-check everything
@Samuel02591095#UWJ201 #319 Samuel, I agree that a lot of journalists care a lot about generating traffic on their sites. It takes a good journalist to make something an interesting read while giving a honest account of the story. I think that this is mostly true of independent journalists.
@mariathestar01 #UWJ201 #319 I think that the media having so much power of what the public consumes/says is dangerous. That being said, I think that the public holds some responsibility for knowing when something is appropriate and when it is not. This is a hard line to draw though
@MasonWaas#UWJ201 #319 Because Twitter is a private company, I do not believe that this violated his right of speech. He did violate their Glorification of Violence policy. I think that those who argue that this is a violation of his rights should look at it in a broader context of events.
#UWJ201 #319 Trump was saying online. Do you argue with Jaffer, or think Trump should have been taken off Twitter for violating guidelines prior to the Capitol riots?
#UWJ201 #319 In reading #4, Jameel Jaffer of Columbia University argues that it was a responsibility of platforms like Twitter to bend their user guidelines to allow some of what former Pres. Trump was saying. He believed that the public needed to hear everything that ...
@carly_marsch#UWJ201 #319 I think that this affects our country's democracy by forcing people to focus in on one thing, whereas a democracy is built for the people to have a voice . It makes a lot of people the real world in an inaccurate way.
@Peri5915#UWJ201 #319 I think one way people who work in the industry can lessen the gap is to stop portraying women in a sexualized way. Often, women in media are attractive and dressed very feminine, but rarely speak. I think the realization of viewers of unfair treatment can help too
#UWJ201 #319...other videos and photos of violence against the Black Community. How did these more current visual media items influence you and the public?
#UWJ201 #319 In the Daniel Strieff article, he names βNation Horrified by Murder of Chicago Youth,β Jet Magazine, one of the most influential journalism stories. The one differs because it is a photo of the brutally murdered, Emmett Till. Over the summer, the public was shown...
@HallieClaflin#UWJ201 #319 I am unsure that it has something to do with their age, but more so education and trust in the media. I think that less educated people are quicker to trust social media, and possible lack political knowledge, as they are not learning about media effects like us
@sophiefriedberg#UWJ201 #319 I do not think social media will be debunked as unreliable, because maybe people truly believe it is. I think that people would result to finding a way to make it more trustworthy before getting rid of it completely because its convenient
#UWJ201 #319 the weather, even if they live in a milder area. One possibility for this statistic could be because people trust the weather on the news more than anything else- because how could it be bias? What do you think?
#UWJ201 #319 The interactive survey results from Pew Research Center were very interesting. I found it surprising that not a lot of people receive their news from social media in Madison, having a large young-adult population.
#UWJ201 #319 I saw a lot of people commenting on how weather was given the most attention, one reason being it's unpredictable and lifestyle changing. However, when I compared this with other cities, such as Miami, I found that the results were consistent- everyone cares about
@sophiefriedberg I think an obvious one is societal pressure to be thin right now, or have a certain body type. A few decades ago, the ideal body type was quite the opposite and popularized by magazines as well. I think that advertising trends like this is toxic for viewers. #UWJ201 #319
