BREAKING: UK defence source confirms there were two explosions outside Kabul airport. One explosion occurred by Barons Hotel, followed by small arms fire, then a second explosion occurred by Abbey Gate. No UK military casualties, according to initial assessment
@PalecekMatous Multiple sources ranging from Afghan/International media to miscellaneous social media posts. Incident information is then compiled/verified
Significant incidents reported in #Afghanistan since the Taliban seized Kabul
- There has been a significant drop in incidents since Aug 15th due to nationwide fighting coming to an end. Isolated clashes between Panjshiri militia and Taliban continue
@Jabulan11504877 Not the full list but here I have focused on the clashes and anti-Taliban protests. I try to post information and news on here when possible but yes, paying clients do get access to the full map
A Talib in #Khost#Afghanistan told me that the civilian airstrip in Khost "is ready to operate" and that "soon @unafghanistan and @ICRC_af planes will land" there.
Interesting: remnants of the anti-Taliban forces in Baghlan had insider help. Given that much of the collapse came from side-switching because US pulled away logistics and air support that made the Afghan army function, does leave open the possibility they can switch right back.
One of the TB members killed in Andarab, Baghlan was this guy Amir Zazai. He was a poet + head of TB's sniper unit in the area. He was from Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan, and had recently gotten married. Right now pro-TB accounts are mourning their "martyrs" from Andarab.
Military officials from the fallen #Afghanistan government are joining the anti-Taliban resistance in Panjshir. Unclear what kind of numbers this is happening in.
Protests were reported today in Gardez and Kabul (not clear how many attended) following protests yesterday in Azadabad, Khost and Jalalabad.
- Protesters gathered to mark independence day and waved Afghan flags
- Protests are possible in other cities across the country today
Since the Taliban captured Kabul, protests have been recorded in the eastern cities of Khost, Jalalabad and Asadabad. Taliban are reported to have fired at protesters in Jalalabad who called on the Taliban to not change the Afghan national flag
