United Plane Strikes Light Pole on Newark Final Approach

United Airlines Flight 169, a Boeing 767 arriving from Venice with 221 passengers, struck a light pole while on final approach to Newark Liberty International Airport, causing minor damage and a ground impact sequence on the New Jersey Turnpike below.

According to New Jersey State Police, the aircraft’s landing gear tire and underside also struck a semi-truck, and the dislodged light pole then hit a Jeep traveling on the highway. The truck driver was transported to a hospital with minor injuries and later released, per the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

No passengers or crew were injured. The aircraft landed safely, and airport operations resumed shortly after inspection. The FAA and NTSB are investigating, with a preliminary report expected within 30 days.
