@soheil_ba82@Tarushdei@aherys I dare you to boot up any game with with both raytracing and screenspace reflection options and compare the performance between the two.
@Tarushdei@aherys "something more expensive than raytracing" Like yeah ok lets see you run anything raytracing on a fucking pentium rig from 2005 broπ
@strajk_@dymeon1@yngmisu If the competition between platforms was really about price, then surely Epic Games' years of free games has led to record user retention and profits, right? Well I see Tim complaining on here every other day, so I guess not. The real competition is about user QOL, and Steam wins
@strajk_@dymeon1@yngmisu Reading those emails, it seems like Valve is still reasonable and are protecting consumer interests. They don't want publishers to treat users unfairly, which is what I've been saying. If steam users get treated unfairly, then steam has no incentive to promote their titles.
@strajk_@dymeon1@yngmisu Publishers are free to set whatever arbitrary price they like for their games, Steam only asks that customers not be financially punished just for using steams platform. Besides that, hosting on steam does not guarantee success, just as self hosting does not guarantee failure.
@strajk_@dymeon1@yngmisu These third parties want their cake and to eat it too. They want the reach that steam provides while also selling their games for cheaper on their own service. If I start undercutting my competitor, of course my competitor is within their rights to stop selling my product.
@strajk_@dymeon1@yngmisu Most important thing is that customers are also free to choose where to spend their money. If steam was the ONLY choice for both consumer and developer, then you'd have an argument. GOG for example thrives because it has excellent support for DRM free titles.
@strajk_@dymeon1@yngmisu Devs 100% can just leave and use other platforms. If they believe the benefits of self hosting or using some 3rd party launcher like Epic or Ubi or GOG then they are free to do so. That's what Dean Hall is doing with his recent KSA game. No one is locked into a steam ecosystem.
@strajk_@dymeon1@yngmisu "Don't charge customers more for shopping in our store or we won't host your product." Is a totally acceptable request. If they want to punish customers for using the best service, then they're the unreasonable ones.
@Matt_Lowne God forbid people actually be proud of their own country for a change. Our space programs are like the last things we can truly take pride in...
@SuperbWren22@pinglyadya Not to mention that maybe we shouldn't worry about one guy with a shovel when there's whole industries dumping who knows what into our rivers and estuaries that are causing orders of magnitude more tangible harm to our ecosystems.
@SuperbWren22@pinglyadya Natural processes have no will and are driven by the laws of physics. The same process initiated by that man with a shovel will be initiated by rain water, sand is easily eroded away. The only difference is time. How exactly is a small lagoon of water actively harming the ocean?
@SkellyO_O@pinglyadya It will do it on its own, 5 minutes of looking into coastal ecology will tell you that. They do this kind of thing recreationally in Hawaii all the time, with little to no change in impact on local marine life.
@KingCheesus@SurvivalGN Krafton delaying specifically so they wouldn't have to pay $250 million in earnout bonuses btw, it has nothing to do with the state of the game at any point. Now that they're free of Kraftons chokehold and funded by the early access release, they can develop the game they want
@Lietus94@HYPERMYSTx consider there's 1000 players, you sample 100 of them, and 4 of them are cheaters. It's then fair to estimate that 4% of the remaining 1000 are also cheaters who have not yet been detected.
@BasedBattletech Renting Advent Rising from blockbuster as a kid who didn't know any better went kinda hard. Ignorance is bliss. Spent a good year or two wondering why there wasn't a sequel yet.
