Thomas Fuller, an African sold into slavery in 1724 at the age of 14, was sometimes known as the “Virginia Calculator” for his extraordinary ability to solve complex math problems in his head.
Again he was asked how many seconds a man has lived who is 70 years, 17 days, and 12 hours old, he answered in a minute and a half 2,210,500,800.
One of the men was working out the problems on paper and informed Fuller that he was wrong because the answer was much smaller.
Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first President and Prime Minister, was born exactly 112 years ago today, on September 21, 1909. He was a powerful proponent of Pan-Africanism and the African Revolution's ultimate strategist.
The significance of June 19 has very recently been acknowledged in US Congress to now make it a Federal Holiday.
However, we must still hold ourselves accountable to learn black history, build systemic structures that empower Black people.
Happy Juneteenth!
