🧵Here's to 2025!
To be frank I have never understood folks in EAC hating on Rwanda. Kagame has rebuilt Rwanda to an orderly, clean, functional and soon to be prosperous nation. Even with their lower economy, can't deny it's a decent place to live & work. No need to be jealous. Let's do better
In Rwanda, every last Saturday of the month is dedicated to Umuganda. A mandatory community service day focused on public hygiene & development
On this day, all citizens come together to clean streets, plant trees, build homes for the poor & address other urgent community needs
The most stunning indoor arena in Africa and the biggest in Rwanda 🇷🇼, BK Arena was built in just six months for $104 million.
It seats 10,000, has 13 restaurants, and the 600-vehicle parking lot.
It has hosted major events like the FIFA Congress, The 2025 UCI Road World Championships, Basketball Africa League, AfroBasket, and more!
Rwanda is building its largest artificial lake, the 40MW Nyabarongo Dam.
The project is 50% complete and will be fully operational in 2028. It will create a water reservoir of 800 million cubic metres.
Portugal vs Italy:
Both countries offer solid tax exemption regimes for those relocating.
Which one is better?
In most cases, it depends on who you are:
- Retirees: Italy is better
- Ultra-millionaires: Italy is better
- Crypto-wealthy individuals: Portugal is better
- Entrepreneurs with global structures: Portugal offers overall better terms and more flexibility
For everyone else, it's primarily a lifestyle choice. The terms are - or can be, if structured properly - very similar.
Italy: offers tax exemption on income (but taxes dividends and capital gains) or a €200K/year flat tax for multi-millionaires. Retirees get a special 7% tax rate. Italy works best for the extremes: ultra-wealthy people (with 15-year guarantees) and normal-income individuals. The R&D exemption for researchers is excellent.
Portugal: The IFICI regime allows a 20% tax on local income and 0% on foreign income (for eligible professions and companies). It lasts 10 years and doesn't tax foreign income or dividends. Capital gains are taxed, except for crypto held over 365 days. It's a very flexible tool, not easy to setup up tough.
I have been reflecting a lot on these topics because of upcoming products; I am attaching here a longer reflection...
