Twelve years ago, Arruba was found alone and distressed near Aruba Dam in Tsavo East National Park: She'd somehow found herself stuck behind a newly erected fence. It's unknown how long she'd been there, but on being alerted by KWS our team travelled up from Voi to rescue her, where she spent the night before being flown to our Nairobi Nursery for specialist care.

10 years ago she graduated to our Voi Unit, and today she is living wild in Tsavo East - the place of her birth. Arruba continues to visit us and was recently seen — with her good friends Mudanda and Rorogoi — looking heavily pregnant. We have everything crossed that she will soon join our growing list of wild-living orphan mums.
