Afro-Creole Languages Week, 1-8th September is the first global event advocating for Afro-Creole languages to be recognised, championed and celebrated!
Ebonics is not just for AAVE. ✊🏾🌍🇳🇬🇸🇽🇯🇲🇦🇬🇬🇾🇱🇨🇸🇱🇸🇹🇲🇶🇬🇩🇨🇻
white institution like the Oxford English Dictionary redefined a Black man’s work, erased his broader vision and changed Ebonics meaning all together?? This is linguistic erasure.
This is what we mean when we say anti-Black lingustic racism. Language discrimination is always racialised! This white french colonialiser man should not be Guadeloupe, no creole, no entry!
We were honoured to celebrate the inaugural Afro Creole Languages Week at the Barbados High Commission in London! 🌍x🇧🇧
A special thank you High Commissioner Edmund Hinkson, S.C. for hosting us as Barbados continues to lead the way in Pan-Africanism & reparatory justice. 🖤

I made this video about my work in Black linguistics entirely in Yoruba ✊🏾
Language justice also means challenging the dominance of only reading linguistics in European languages. Yoruba like all languages is a language to theorise, create and think in.
Our founder had a wonderful time on BBC1Xtra being interviewed by @RichieBrave about the reason why she created Afro Creole Language Week and what language justice looks like for Afro-descendant communities.

Find out more about the Yoruba influences in Trinidad English Creole 🇹🇹
Creoles and Pidgins need to be valued and studied as interfaces used by African people for centuries that to some extent still shape even our local dialects. Not broken english or broken French.
@AfroCreoleWeek
Wow and that’s a wrap it is officially the end of @AfroCreoleWeek!
I just closed off the week and wow! I cannot believe the community we have built and people that have connected from this little idea in my idea.

Grateful to God always ❤️🌍🎉📢
Anyway if we all picked up a book, got involved with @AfroCreoleWeek etc etc we wouldn’t have half the diaspora problems that we do and maybe this collective identity you lot want to form so bad wouldn’t look so higgy!
