As much as we want to remember the music from 2014 to 2019 as the golden era of Afrobeats and Nigerian music generally, we also need to give credit to the music of now, the music of 2026 has been so peak and we don’t know it.

Do you know how many kids lit their first igbeaux to a Zaylevelten’s muzz or the ones that have a collage with them and their boyfriend with the “I love you” song by Ama, or those that had their first kiss to a ScottyOlorin song, or their first clubbing experience with Chanel by Blaqbonez. Those arsenal fans that won their first trophy in years blasting motion sickness by Odumodublvck, those dealing with depression and put on “coping mechanism” by Omah lay, and finally those who got their first job and put on gratitude by Asake.

More than the conversations and the actions of the artists that we discuss people go through life with music and we should not push aside these emotions and feelings that these songs have helped people through because we expect more.

Some countries can’t boast of the amount of thriving talents we have, other artist have to copy our Melodie’s to have motion in theirs,

These records are moments in history and I hope we don’t reduce them to rubble because we have “higher expectations” instead of enjoying the now.
