sure, people are boycotting - but i do think years of dead on arrival songs & 0s is starting to take it's toll, too. It's brand damaging! 4 Jeminis in 6 years... Radio silence on change from the BBC as usual isn't acceptable - the broadcaster lacks transparency & accountability๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
A total of 5.24 million viewers in UK watched the Eurovision 2026 grand final, the lowest figure ever for a Eurovision final on British TV. Down 25% from last year and almost half of viewership lost from 2023 when BBC hosted the contest in Liverpool. Very depressing stats.
@Rob3008@lukewbm 2009 was a big brand relaunch saturday primetime shows with Graham taking over from Terry & Jade being framed as a next star. 2010 was moved to friday night + dated approach with pete waterman & lost viewers.
Fun fact: UK national final that year got 7.22MILLION viewers.
BBC really did fumble the bag with our decades old national selection when they axed it... sure, bad time slots, bad formats & bad songs chipped away at it, but a 6y break destoryed the tradition & viewing figures
obsessed with DIVA katie price who almost represented uk in eurovision 2005 having a whole saga with her new husband; ghosting her, pretending to be kidnapped to refuse to fly back to the uk while katie is advertising her cbd oils
Agree. Was never a fan of when UK national finals used random celebs as an expert panel like it was X Factor...i'd rather hear from likes of @Cherylbaker who has been a champion of Eurovision in UK for decades & always grateful...her analysis is regularly correct compared to BBC.
Cheryl Baker of Bucks Fizz calling Bangaranga the best winner for a long time and expressing frustration at UK quickly going back to square one and dubbing BBC very lazy. Perhaps she could be on the delegation? Every year her post-contest analysis is always slick.

@roundnroundnabt@lrl014@bbceurovision Denmark prob influenced by our staging this year refined it and got the tone right plus a better song & vocal delivery. Still risquรฉ but not something your gran tells you to cover your eyes over ๐
I don't think @bbceurovision need to be like a Swedish Tv show or even try to be Eurovision...
They just need to be cool, credible & current but most importantly, British!
The millennium bug seemed to kill the BBC Eurovision team because they need to look back to move forward๐
@roundnroundnabt@lrl014@bbceurovision The BBC didn't provide the public anything great to select from in the recent national selections they provided. & The famous person they sent had a song that went nowhere, staging that was too sleazy for the average european & dodgy vocals. The bbc should get the basics correct
this is DIRE! since 2000, France, Germany and Spain have all had SEVEN top 10 finishes and Italy has THIRTEEN! Italy only rejoined in 2011. UK has only THREE since 2000. the BBC need to pull their shit together ๐ซฃ
Even Jools Holland could find something more on the pulse or credible than 90% of the slop the BBC have provided or shortlisted for us this millennium. Everyone internally can't be so clueless - can they just not speak truth to power?

@lrl014@roundnroundnabt@bbceurovision Also there is an argument to be made that having a fully finished package months in advance as seen for over a decade from sweden & lately from finland & co is now tired as it allows others to excite & get momentum during rehearsals week due to people chasing new content nowadays
@lrl014@roundnroundnabt@bbceurovision yep. im pro music festival - i said a few yrs back they should have started one in liverpool on back of hosting. Start small & build organically. eurofan obsession to be sweden with a cross country stadium tour is delusional. BBC killed our solid NF ratings when axing it in 2011
@roundnroundnabt@bbceurovision Huge arena are unneeded currently. Just do it in a different venue around the country each year if wanting a crowd element. But the obsession with being sweden or finland is the wrong starting point. + the bbc's shortlist of songs quite simply shouldn't include any trash.
It wasn't trying to be Eurovision... it was just a diverse representation of the british music scene at that moment in time. Trying to current, cool & relevant. The starting point is literally that & then everything else you need for esc success. Stop trying to write slop for ESC
Looking at the result ๐ฌ๐ง, itโs mostly the BBCโs faultโthey really wasted LMNCโs potential. They should have given him artistic freedom, but there are some positives too: I discovered a new artist, so ๐คท
