WHO have officially designated it as a ‘variant of concern’, naming it Omicron (presumably thought Nu was too like New):
“This variant has a large number of mutations, some of which are concerning. Preliminary evidence suggests an increased risk of reinfection with this variant"

Caveat first: data here is *very* preliminary, so everything could change. Nonetheless, better safe than sorry.
