Dear @ChicagosMayor #Brandon4Chicago,

It is interesting that your administration continues to appear more concerned with advancing the agenda of your Puppet Master, Stacy Davis Gates and the Chicago Teachers Union than with protecting the financial future of the city you were elected to lead.

You seem very determined to push Chicago further down a path of financial instability with your continued support for a so-called “Corporate Head Tax,” arguing that corporations need to “pay their fair share.”

I have a few questions for you.

Did you apply that same principle of accountability to your own financial obligations before becoming mayor? Why did it take extensive news coverage for you to address your reported outstanding debts to the city? Shouldn’t accountability begin with the people demanding it from others?

And let’s talk about public safety and the resources devoted to protecting you.

You have over 150 Chicago Police Officers at your fingertips for you and your family's safety and security.

At a time when residents are seeing longer response times for officers due to the @Chicago_Police districts constantly being understaffed and constant back logs of calls for service.

Chicagoans deserve transparency about the resources devoted to protecting you and your family while regular citizens can't even ride the @cta without fear of being the victim of a violent crime.

How much does your security detail cost taxpayers, and is that level of protection justified? Are you paying your share or are the taxpayers paying it for you?

Chicago residents deserve answers.

Now, your administration is advancing discussions about a potential “cloud tax,” adding yet another concern for businesses already evaluating the cost of operating in Chicago.

At what point do you recognize that continually pursuing new taxes could discourage investment, drive businesses to neighboring communities, threaten jobs, and further weaken the city’s tax base?

Chicago needs responsible fiscal management, not an endless search for new revenue without a clear, measurable plan to control spending.

And what about the money already spent?

Your administration’s handling of illegal migrants had the city spending over 650 million dollars including the reported lease of a potentially contaminated property intended for illegal migrant housing that was ultimately abandoned, raises serious questions about vetting, contracting, and the responsible use of public funds. But the city continues paying for a property that is no longer being used for its intended purpose, good money for the owner of the property.

Chicago taxpayers and Businesses are not an unlimited source of revenue at your expense.

Effective leadership which you lack, means making difficult decisions, prioritizing essential services, protecting public safety, and ensuring that every public dollar is spent responsibly. It does not mean continually asking taxpayers and businesses to cover the consequences of questionable decisions.

Mayor Johnson, all of Chicago deserves more than political rhetoric and another proposed tax spearheaded by your bosses at the @ctu. Chicago deserves transparency, accountability, fiscal discipline, and leadership that puts the interests of all Chicago residents and Businesses ahead of political alliances.

The question is simple: When will Chicago’s taxpayers see the same level of accountability from City Hall that City Hall demands from them?

Get your head out the clouds and out the pockets of already struggling residents and businesses alike.

As details begin to seep out, Mayor Johnson’s budget is revealed to be a rehash of his 2026 budget.

Johnson will once again try to convince us he is taxing “big corporations” and “protecting working families,” but his budget like the last does neither.

Here are some immutable truths about the 2027 budget:

    •    The proposed jobs killing $25 per-employee head tax is laid on large businesses even if the company does not record a profit.

    •    The already nation leading transaction tax will rise to 20% to the cost to any business or individual who accesses computer services.

    •     Johnson will add another $285 million in property taxes from TIF’s to the $300 million increase in property taxes already approved by his controlled school board.

    •    Despite Johnson’s “tax-the-rich” rhetoric, Chicago residents could face several other new fees and taxes if the mayor’s budget is passed.

None of what the mayor is proposing will require billionaires and millionaires to pay their “fair share.”
