@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers I mean yeah but like worst case scenario, you don’t get one, Falkner is still beatable with just the normal rodents, you don’t lose anything by picking the insta-out to Whitney
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers You don’t really care about Water and Ice in the early game. It isn’t until near E4 where the types come up. By then you’ve likely fished up a Magikarp. And even still you can get a Vaporeon, who is another mon who does it better.
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers You can play around Sucker Punch. As for sleep, simply don’t get hit and if you do, swap to a nonsleep mon and your sleep mon to stall out Dream Eater. That’s only assuming you somehow only have one normal, slow mon. You can solo his gym with Raticate bc how bad his team is
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers You can beat Falkner with Sentret and Ratatta assuming you didn’t get a rock in the cave before his gym. And if you didn’t get Quag there’s still tons of waters that can do what Gatr does bc Water is the most common type. A water that knows an Ice move isn’t that hard to find
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers Rattata counters Morty, Morty is the easiest gym in the entire game given that he cannot hit Normal Types if you know what you’re doing
@MadiJadeAudio For those unaware. Johto is the only line of games where fights can get weaker as you go on. You will go from lv30 mons to being drastically overleveled for the next segment, making a lot of the fights “Pressing A” Simulator. Pryce, the seventh Gym leader is weaker than the Sixth
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers You lose nothing by picking Rita. Gatr’s role can be played by a majority of water types, some even better than him. But by picking Gatr or Cyndiqul, you lose a good out to the probably the hardest early game fight, all for pokemon that could’ve been easily replaced in a Rita run
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers Quag can beat Jasmine by itself. Quag is better into Clair. Quag is good into brock bc it hits the fossils for SE where Gatr doesn’t, good into surge, Janine, and Blaine. I can’t think of anything Gatr has than he hits a bit harder. Which is my point, Gatr is easily replaced
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers My point is that Morty is an incredibly easy fight. His only way to hit normal types is Sucker Punch which can be cheesed around and I think he has some sleep shenanigans but I could be misremembering. A single normal type and some guys to switch around to shake off curse can win
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers The reason I believe Quag to be better than Gatr, is that Quag does more. Quag has more coverage and if it has Water Absorb it’s a good pivot. Sure Gatr can kill Steelix easy, but it’s not like Quag struggles to kill. Quag can near solo where Gatr needs other mons to cover it
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers Well neither Quag or Gatr is that good into Clair. You typically wanna bring Electric attack into that fight since Ice only gets you through the Nairs. An ice type from the ice cave right before her fight will suffice
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers I mean by the time you really care about the water typing will be by the time it’s high enough level, I can’t really think of any early game fights were you want to bring a water type
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers Ledian is quad-weak to rollout(and also can’t heal itself) is the reason it doesn’t fill Bayleef’s niche. Reflect or no, that thing is dying in 1-2 turns. Having an out to the hardest early fight in the game puts it over the rest which can be replaced by most mons of their type
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers Water is the most common typing in the game. You’re not really struggling for availability for a water type. But, if you wanna talk availability, you are guaranteed a Quagsire in Violet City or Ruins of Aleph who’s just better than Gatr in every way
@Neosonic97@khazarAntlers All of them are mid Rita just has a unique niche. Gatr can be replaced by most mons. The ice stuff for Clair would be a good point if she wasn’t so deep into the game to where you can get an Ice TM for any mon and you go through a place littered with ice types right before her
@OyeVitaminas@khazarAntlers Typically for Nuzlockes. Not seeing Geodude can make Miltank a run ender, so a reflect user can be useful. Cyndaquil doesn’t really have good matchups you can’t get from any other common encounters. Totodile is ok but water is the most common type and other mons do what it can do
@Menedaiko@khazarAntlers Nah, I genuinely think all the Johto starters are trash. Chikorita is just the only one with a unique application. None of the starters are that good in this game. Ig Ferailgator, but a water type with an Ice Move is very easy to come by whenever it becomes relevant in the game
