Being in a relationship does not extinguish one's need for validation. But you shouldn't be so comfortable indulging it as to actively court it, certainly not nearly enough to speak it so brazenly. As if it were my duty as a partner to accomodate the indulgence. & that if I don't, I'm a bad partner.

If I like you, I should hate that another man said something nasty to you, or looked at you a certain way. It should enrage me that you liked it, & thought it worthy of mention. And that now, you are investing time and resources on fanning more.

Idc, lie to me. Give me the illusion, if you can't give me anything else. I chose you, I kept you, I made you; why should they get to enjoy the perks without the labor? Was I the fool?

Where where they when you had only two ill-fitting dresses? Why should their approval hold so much weight that you'd be sad without it when they have done nothing to earn it?

And that I, who choose you everyday, should be punished for it by being reminded how inadequate my desire for you is?

As a man, I like it, too, everytime a colleague gets startled by the rumble in my voice. Or when the lady at the shop says, "Gosh! You're so tall". Or "You have nice eyes".

But I can't expect you to be okay with it simply because it felt nice to me... enough to verbalize it. And fan it. And treat you as less than on account of it. Or use it as the ultimate yardstick for the state of our relationship.

It's okay, your insecurity; just don't make it my responsibility. Or sentence.

I shouldn't be punished for your lack of self-love, when I have given you all the love I had to give. Nor do you get to treat it as a condition, whose treatment is my obligation.

It's yours. Fix it.
