Michael Phelps is literally referred to as a freak of nature because of his disproportionate wingspan, double jointed ankles, lung capacity twice that of an average human, body that produces half the lactic acid of a typical athlete, and he is rightly celebrated for being the greatest male swimmer in history. Meanwhile, female athletes with genetic differences are legally discriminated against and harassed to no end. This is not about “protecting women in sports” - this is about protecting a very specific idea of what a woman is.

Steven Van de Velde, a Dutch volleyball player who raped a 12 yr old girl in 2014, is competing at the Olympics. Israel, who have violated the Olympic Truce in continuing to bomb Gaza where thousands of women and girls have been killed, is competing at the Olympics. Yet the outrage is being spewed at cis female athletes who have naturally higher levels of T. It has never been about protecting women!!!!!

As I watched the peaceful student protesters @occupyuoft carefully removing & preserving the artwork and information posted on the fence that @UofT erected to barricade a commons space from common use, I was reminded of importance of protest archives …

The court has ordered that the U of T encampment for 🇵🇸 be dismantled by 6 PM tomorrow. I had hoped that, in weighing harm, the complicity in genocide would have been considered more significant than students using a section of greenery as a protest tactic against said complicity
