“In South Africa, the problem is not a deficiency of food. I believe we produce enough food for everyone in this country. The issue is exorbitant food pricing & a society shaped by opportunism”- Justice Kollapen

Before we post our response to @jsteenhuisen claim that overall food security & especially household food security is NOT the concern of @DOAgov_ZA let’s remember the excitement expressed for the 2025 G20 Food Security Task Force less than a year ago #WorldHungerDay#EndHungerSA

Inquiries, commissions and task teams have already produced piles of recommendations on water in Gauteng. The crisis has continued.
A credible outcome from the SAHRC inquiry should include enforceable timelines, named accountability and public progress tracking.

🚨JOIN THE ENERGY FOR ALL PEOPLE’S ASSEMBLY & POLITICAL SCHOOL🚨
On the 29th of May, as TotalEnergies announces record profits to shareholders at its AGM, we will be occupying the street outside their South African headquarters in Rosebank and turning it into a site of struggle and a school of struggle.
Join us from 10am for the Energy for All Assembly: Kick Polluters Out and Fund Our Future! — a community assembly and political school bringing together community activists, trade unionists, organisers and ordinary people to confront the deepening energy affordability crisis in South Africa and the role of multinational fossil fuel corporations like TotalEnergies in driving it.
While millions of South Africans are forced to choose between electricity and food, electricity and transport, corporations like Total continue to profit from extraction, pollution and profiteering across the African continent and beyond.
Together, we will grapple with:
• The crisis of energy access and unaffordability in South Africa
• The role of fossil fuel dependence in driving high electricity costs
• Why ordinary people are being forced to carry the costs of a system organised around profit
• The need to expand Free Basic Electricity (FBE) through publicly owned renewable energy
• The role of corporations like TotalEnergies in deepening extraction, exploitation and ecological destruction across Africa
Importantly, this assembly forms part of the global “Kick Polluters Out” Week of Action (23–30 May 2026), where organisations, communities and activists from more than 19 countries are coordinating over 60 actions across the world in a growing act of international resistance against fossil fuel expansion and extractive capitalism.
As communities across the world rise up against pipelines, mining giants, offshore drilling and corporate profiteering, we too will localise the struggle here in South Africa — connecting the fight against EACOP, Mozambique LNG and fossil fuel expansion to the lived realities of working class communities facing poverty, energy insecurity and environmental injustice.

Stay focused, people! Fossil Capitalism HATES unity. Don't feed the beast the xenophobia it loves. Organise across borders. Be kind to your neighbours.
A better world is possible if we work together.

Human actions like burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests, and industrial farming are heating up our world faster than ever.
This doesn’t just make the planet hotter but results in extreme weather, food insecurity, water crises and rising sea levels which hit vulnerable communities the hardest.
The climate crisis affects us all. Understanding it is the first step toward change.

Big changes often begin in small places, with neighbours organising, young people stepping up, and communities standing together.
Whether it’s pushing for fairer systems, backing local initiatives, or raising our voices online, people on the ground are the ones driving real tra
