Knock that sh** off! Last week we sent a letter to 39 county prosecutors and more than 250 municipal attorneys offering our assistance in protecting the rights of those engaged in the initiative and referendum process, following reports of signature gatherers being harassed.
AG Brown explains ⬇️
Wind in the sails of clean energy! We defeated the federal government’s illegal attempt to halt wind energy development. This is a huge win for Washington’s clean energy transition and growing green economy. https://t.co/pHe140lqyE
No two days are the same for AG Brown. On a recent trip to Spokane, he spent the day learning from our staff and meeting with local officials at Spokane City Hall to discuss community priorities. Follow along to see a day in the life of AG Brown in Spokane.
We sent a letter today to 39 county prosecutors and more than 250 municipal attorneys offering our assistance in protecting the rights of Washingtonians to organize politically through the initiative and referendum process. There have been reports of harassment directed towards signature gatherers. While the AG’s office does not have the legal authority to initiate criminal cases without a referral from a local prosecutor, we are here to assist local prosecutors in these cases. https://t.co/t4xx0W1SzC
Graduating from law school in this moment in our country gives emerging professionals the challenge and the privilege to do things foundational to our democracy. Lawyers, grounded in their training, beliefs, and integrity, and a commitment to the rule of law, can be the compass for the future of our country.
Congratulations to all the graduates around our state, and thank you to the University of Washington School of Law for having me as your commencement keynote speaker. It was an honor to share this unforgettable milestone with the incredible Class of 2026.

The federal administration has created more chaos and confusion with its ongoing culture war.
In March, President Trump issued an executive order directing federal agencies to adopt new contract terms that—in the name of purging any “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) initiatives—impose unclear and confusing requirements on state agencies doing business with the federal government.
Now, along with other states, we’re suing to challenge the rushed implementation of that radical order.

More than 11,000 Washingtonians will likely be eligible for restitution through a bipartisan multistate settlement with GS Labs, which ran COVID-19 testing sites. The settlement resolves claims that the company overcharged patients and failed to deliver timely COVID-19 test results.
Nearly $1 million will be available to compensate Washington residents who were harmed by the company’s testing practices.
“During the height of the pandemic, GS Labs unfairly profited off of Washingtonians just trying to get tested for COVID-19,” Attorney General Nick Brown said. “This is another great example of how our office vigorously enforces Washington’s consumer protection laws to protect people from deceptive business practices.”

In @thecolumbian: AG Brown discusses how Trump threatens WA elections. States control elections, not the president. We’re working to keep our elections safe and secure. https://t.co/hVVRmf2EdQ
Another Washington win: a federal court vacated the Trump administration’s illegal $100K tax on H-1B visas. This will save our state money and help us stay on the cutting edge of specialized research in critical industries like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and medicine. https://t.co/V623n1UpcU
Our thoughts are with the survivors and families of those killed or missing in the Longview disaster. Washingtonians are generous people. We’ve seen that as first responders rushed to the scene, the care the Longview community has shown each other, and the way so many people from across the state are looking for ways to donate and give to the community.
If you are looking to donate to Longview families, please give thoughtfully and look out for potential scams or fraudulent solicitations. If you see a charity solicitation that looks suspicious, please file a complaint with our office. https://t.co/tRMXN26z3r
June is Gun Violence Awareness Month, and today, June 5th is National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
Gun violence is tearing our communities apart, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Here is a look at how it affects Washington state:
●950 people die from gun violence in WA annually on average.
●68% of those deaths are suicides (avg. 649 per year).
●28% are homicides (avg. 266 per year).
You can help prevent a gun tragedy. If someone you know is at risk of hurting themselves or others, an Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) can temporarily remove their firearms. It’s a civil tool designed to save lives, not a criminal charge. Learn how to take action today at the link below. https://t.co/DL41UZTkbp #WearOrange
Scammers are targeting injured, Spanish-speaking workers in the PNW with seemingly-official communications regarding workers’ compensation. Stay alert! Washington state will never ask you to make a payment before you can receive workers’ compensation. Learn more about the scam: https://t.co/RtsCtww7bd

A King County jury last week delivered a guilty verdict on all 11 counts in the first Medicaid fraud trial in Washington state history involving the charge of leading organized crime. The AG’s Office investigated and prosecuted the successful case against a man who ran a fraudulent scheme to steal identities of real nurses and use them to send unqualified imposter nurses into long-term healthcare facilities.
“This verdict is the result of our team’s commitment to cracking down on Medicaid fraud and ensuring the safety of our health system,” Attorney General Nick Brown said. “We are gratified to get justice for the many people harmed and put at risk by these crimes.”
Since October 2018, the Washington State Medicaid Fraud & Abuse Division in the AG’s Office has charged 127 criminal cases and obtained 104 criminal convictions. Additionally, the division recovered about $81 million on behalf of the Medicaid program through its civil prosecutions.

Congress has tried repeatedly in the past year to bar states from passing their own AI regulations. Now they’re trying to prevent states from taking action to protect kids from social media harms, obscenity, social gaming platforms, and AI chatbots.
AG Nick Brown spoke with KUOW about why he and a bipartisan group of AGs sent a letter to congressional leadership opposing the so-called Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act, which in reality would weaken states’ ability to protect children online while insulating Big Tech from accountability.

To close out National Military Appreciation Month, our office has released a new resource guide for military service members in Washington informing them of their rights and protections.
The guide includes information about state and federal laws that affect military service members in Washington and where service members and their families can go for more help or information about their rights.
“Our office wants to do everything we can to help service members and their families thrive,” said AG Nick Brown. “There are many state and federal laws and programs to protect and support those who serve our country and their loved ones, but navigating them can be challenging. This guide has important information about these rights and resources.”

My thoughts are with the survivors and families of those deceased or missing in the Longview chemical plant implosion. As we learn more about this tragedy, I’m grateful for the first responders and reflecting on the powerful images of the community’s rapid response to the disaster. We become more than the sum of our parts in moments like these.
