🍅 As you may know, growing tomatoes in the same location year after year can lead to a buildup of pests and diseases. In contrast, rotating various vegetable crops in the garden not only enhances soil fertility but also helps control insect and disease pests that develop on a narrow range of vegetable plants. Moving crops to different sites isolates these pests from their food sources, reducing the likelihood that they will establish a permanent presence in your garden.
🍅 Tomatoes are the most consumed fruit, regardless of socioeconomic status, which means farmers have a ready market irrespective of market prices.
🍅 It is wise for farmers to include tomatoes in their crop rotation to prevent other crops from depleting the same nutrients in the root zone. Introducing tomatoes into the rotation allows for soil rejuvenation.
🍅 Farmers often need a consistent cash flow, and tomatoes provide a reliable market.
🍅 Given the high demand and supply issues, one advantage of tomatoes is the potential for value addition, such as creating tomato puree or powder, which can enhance cash flow.
🍅 Tomatoes can be grown on a small plot of land and mature earlier than onions—taking about 75 days compared to onions, which require 120 to 150 days.
🍅 There is a vast selection of tomato varieties available, giving farmers a wide range of options to choose from, whether they wish to sell jam, cherry tomatoes, or round tomatoes.
🍅 Tomatoes can be grown year-round, provided that frost, diseases, and pests are managed effectively.

How do you make money in farming?
Farming is a trick. It’s a game of numbers.
Once you understand your market, prices stop being the main problem. What matters is your cost of production, the quality of your produce, and the quantity you harvest.
Take onions for example. Your profit is the selling price minus your cost of production. What makes you wealthy is the total kilograms you sell.
Sometimes you sell at a good price but with low quantities, your earnings remain small.
That’s why I say farming money is a game of numbers. How many are you producing?
