Race and sexuality are two different things. When your skin is black or brown, your race can be seen. Hell, you’re born that way. So yes, iUnderstand your mermaid reference. But you can’t always clearly see sexuality by looking at someone. Some say you are born this way; others feel it’s a learned behavior. Children see color…iDont think they “see” or learn sexuality until it’s shown to them (if that makes sense). Just like hate isn’t learned until they see or mimic the adults behavior they see.

Thinking back to my childhood, iWatched Sesame Street…and iNever ever thought Bert & Ernie was gay bc iDidnt know what gay was as a child. As an adult with nieces & nephews who watched, iStill never saw it…and neither did they. It wasn’t until ADULTS started started this discussion (i.e. - planted a seed) on social media that’s causing people to reexamine what we innocently viewed as friendship on a cartoon.
