Case For Change: The govt distancing itself from its responsibility to children and their families. We know CSC is overstretched, under resourced and risk averse. We’ve been shouting that! Repeatedly! Don’t hamstring social work then blame it - fund it. @CareReviewWatch
@markrusselluk@JoshMacAlister So many of the solutions are already known, some commitment from government that they care enough to dedicate resources to implement them is what’s needed
(2/2) That the govt hasn’t promised funding to implement systematic change makes it feel unlikely we’ll get a better chance to do our jobs as we want to. Will the #carereview just turn out to be another identification of problems with no hope of solutions?
Reading about the great practice featured in the #carereview has got me excited to return from mat leave. Thinking about the reality of working as an assessing SW and limitations to great practice has me dreading it 1/2
@JoshMacAlister Looking forward to reading full report and seeing how it continues to be presented in media as it unfolds! Public perception of SW is so so important in the work we can do so I look forward to seeing any discussion re this too
As social workers we all know that when we have more time we can make space for that more helpful second order practice- MI, family therapy style sessions- not to mention the simple filling of forms needed to often get external help/resources
4. Cutting across all of these issues is the need for a programme of investment and reform, greater cross government and agency collaboration and a boost in the time social workers have to spend working with children and families
4. Cutting across all of these issues is the need for a programme of investment and reform, greater cross government and agency collaboration and a boost in the time social workers have to spend working with children and families
the paraphrasing of this in today’s news- ‘social workers spend too much time investigating, not enough time helping’ is deeply frustrating, blaming of SWers & I feel furthering a dangerous ‘us v them’ narrative

What factors might lie behind marked regional variations in infant care proceedings?

@nickchapplehyam @Scroobiuspipyo@avitale@adamec87@DPiecesNetwork@ApplePodcasts@Spotify@acast I’m in interested in this view and what makes you think this to be true- why social care and MH services couldn’t be 24/7 like police, fire and ambulance services. if you’re happy to elaborate would be appreciated!
@akalamusic Baby zebras’ legs are the same length as the adults so they can’t be noticed and picked out when running from predators. Pretty sure I spotted the same with sheep too? 🤷♀️
@laurenlaverne We were meant to be graduating from our social work Masters program with @FrontlineSW today, will be getting glammed up and drinking gin at home instead!! Congrats 2017 cohort 🥳
@Stressbaker @T_Ellul @JessAmyWrites @SofieHagen Have you seen the Louis Theroux documentary about it all? It’s worth a watch, a much more disturbing focus on the humans and their awfulness. Not pleasant but seems more genuine.
