Microbial ecologist fascinated by how microbes interact with each other, their environment, our environment, especially in constructed/engineered environments
PhD opportunity: Modelling Natural Hydrogen systems using Agent Based modelling. Based at Heriot Watt University and working with us at the British Geological Survey - would suit a geologist/modeller curious about microbes

The continuing spread #H5N1 has affected more than just dairy cows in the US. This updated animated video highlights key impact points in the timeline from early this year up to October 11th.

I'm moving to Scotland in early 2025 (Glasgow-Edinburgh-Stirling). If anyone hears of any jobs that might suit a microbial ecologist/geomicrobiologist/environmental scientist/geobiotechnologist/ environmental microbiologist, do let me know!
Reminder that Lorena Fernández-Martínez and I have a studentship available, starting autumn 2024 - on evolution of antibiotic-producing bacteria - closing date 9th Feb https://t.co/YETY9JR38w pls RT
My own example: this week I will be interviewing for a postdoc at another institution. Even though I am a CoI on this project, the starting salary for the postdoc is higher than my current salary. Best of all, the funding for both our jobs ultimately comes from the same source.
I've written a blog post about why I'm on #strike today. It shows how the public sector pays £32k for a "software developer" where the private sector pays £35-70k. We struggle to recruit and retain staff and services are suffering.

4. I've never bought into the political ideology that says wearing a mask harms the economy. On the contrary, if wearing a mask reduces transmission, it reduces the number of sick days people take and therefore can be good for the economy
I'm one of those weirdos still wearing a mask about the place. Based on the looks I get when I'm out and about, I feel like I need to explain myself. So, here are 4 reasons I'm still masking.
3. It is better not to get covid than to get covid. It increasingly looks like it is best to avoid covid if you have already had it once https://t.co/BWhad1Wl7W
Would introducing mask wearing in schools also "stop more cases of the bacterial infection" and effectively reduce the similar number of under 14 year olds who have died of covid in the same period ) and not potentially contribute to antibiotic resistance? https://t.co/jDBfQ5LGKC
