The Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) today signed a Cooperation Agreement to provide technical support estimated at USD 2.3M to the Warehouse Receipt System (WRS) aimed at bolstering its adoption and uptake in Kenya. 1/5

The project is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Kenya and aims to strengthen the legal, regulatory and operational framework of WRS so as to boost warehouse receipt financing and increase private sector participation and investments in the system. 2/5

Speaking during the signing ceremony today, PS Trade @AlfredKOmbudo said the support will help ensure increased food production in the country through provision of quality storage and certified warehouse facilities for the farm produce once harvested. 3/5

PS @AlfredKOmbudo noted that the receipt reflects the quantity & quality of the commodity deposited at a certified warehouse and is transferable and negotiable hence can be used as collateral to secure credit for the farmers or cooperatives and traders. 4/5
