Anything else is a violation of basic human dignity, even by those laws you follow. We, as Muslims are commanded to be just, not practice brutality.

Punishment is incarceration (time constrained denial of their right to movement), anything more that they are put through is arbitrary punishment. Prisoners are afforded certain rights (mandela rules) , mordis signed on to those nd are obliged to ensure those rights are met.
