@HeungyingW @saragrummert I understand that the means of coaches are build them up mentally, etc. but derogatory language and “tough” love isn’t the way to do it. I believe in being pushed in order to produce growth but I don’t agree with verbal abuse and verbally abuse is a real problem and it does exist
#ucr50@saragrummert Today, we presented on toxic masculinity. A question was asked about whether there was any progress toward alleviating the problem. Here is an article that talks about the course college campuses are starting to implement. https://t.co/3rs4hZlIzM
@ChaffeeSadie@saragrummert Yes I totally agree with that! The requirements of the NCAA and member institutions make it really difficult to be able to succeed academically and their sport of interest.
@saragrummert#ucr50 Chapter 24 talks a lot about the restrictions college athletes have to abide by in order to play their sport of interest. How can college athletes maximize their college experience if there are so many restrictions on what they can and can't do?
@NiuLiu3@saragrummert I feel that the more women's sports are publicized and advertised more women will feel empowered to play their sport of interest or attempt to play a sport as well as if less stigmas are placed on women.
@saragrummert#ucr50m Title IX encompasses more than just sports however, I'd like to think that the enactment itself challenges the very foundation it stands on. How can Title IX better fit the needs of athletes?
@DianaTo41965596 @_janaee_@saragrummert I agree with that, at some point everyone may feel that way but if we step out on faith, we’ll realize that there are more people out there siding with us. Maybe it will take some of us to step out to encourage others to as well.

The issues we see pertaining to race are deeply rooted by the structure this country was built on. If the mentality of the people don't change how can we expect policies, institutions and organizations to? Answer the call to action.

@KarlaCando4@saragrummert I believe that as more non-athlete students and faculty members become aware of the reality behind the lives and struggles of college athletes their perceptions of them will change because mine did. Ignorance and arrogance is the main cause of stereotypes.
@saragrummert#ucr50 College Athletes work just as hard or even harder than some non-athletic students. It's important that people do their research before making assumptions. It's disheartening to see that college athletes aren't being properly supported. https://t.co/3N4Lt83jZ8
@ucrleabeee@saragrummert@saragrummert#ucr50 I totally agree with you. I feel that college athletes struggle with their own identity as much as their social identity as a whole. I support the fact that their teams become their family but athletes definitely miss out on the social aspect of college.
@guuaadalupee19@saragrummert If people are curious enough to come and see what’s happening here and if we performed well then I would like to think that UCR would have lots more exposure; not only in the aspect of football but all events as a whole because it could possibly generate attraction to the campus
@saragrummert#UCR50 Paul Robeson was a Trail Blazer indeed!! He accomplished so much in his lifetime in such a crucial time period! Facing oppression, racism, discrimination, and so much more, Paul rose above and achieved things that I couldn't even imagine myself accomplishing.
In reference to the kinds of harassment and suffering Paul encountered, Do you think that athletes today face similar situations and challenges among their teammates? Not only in regards to racism but to any and all factors that may cause these kinds of things to happen.
