Uganda’s economy is growing at a rapid rate, with GDP projected to grow between 6.5% & 6.8% in the near term.
So is the rate, at which accommodation & residential apartments & condos.

Ugandans now prefer to stay in organized residential environments than the plush bungalows that used to grace Kololo, Bugolobi, Nakasero etc.

Apartments give a sense of security, shared utilities like gyms, swimming pools, spaces for parties & children play areas like basket ball courts.

There are management companies that take care of litter & cleaning. Parking is underneath & families enjoy Kla scenery.

However, I am seriously concerned with the real threat of fires within these dwelling places & their domestic & shared facilities.

Firstly, do we have functional fire safety procedures & drills to residents? Secondly, do we have fire safety inspections before occupation certificates are handed over to residents?

Who keeps mobilizing, sensitizing & educating residents about the threat of fires in their individual apartments? For example, do we have brochures or small videos in the lift system in these places?

God forbid, if fire guts one of these apartments with 100 units and over 300 residents. What emergency systems do we have in place. Does every city division in Kampala have fire fighting equipment in place?

Remember, the responsibility of fighting fire in urban centers is placed under the urban authorities according to the Local Government Act.

However, we leave this responsibility to the @PoliceUg alone who unfortunately have inadequate equipment to handle the ever increasing number of apartment sprouting in the city.

There’s need for a national action plan for this important matter. We must have multiple agency approach eg involving Ministries of Internal Affairs, Local Government, Works, Lands Housing & Urban Development, all coordinated by Prime Minister’s office.

It looks like each residential apartment needs a small fire safety vehicle always on standby in case of fire. Private fire safety companies need to be encouraged & available in every division. Emergency telephone contacts of both police & private fire safety providers must be provided to every resident in these apartments.

I am deeply saddened and alarmed that young Ugandans are being recruited by Russia to fight as mercenaries in Ukraine.

Poverty and hopelessness have pushed them into this dangerous and dehumanising gamble. The NRM government must act to bring our sons back home.

The big problem for the parasites seems to be the unstoppable growth of Uganda’s economy. On account of the correct philosophical, ideological and strategic positions of the NRM, the economy is growing robustly, especially after solving the mistake by the 6th Parliament of blocking the Bujagali dam in 2002.

Investments are flocking in from China, India, the UAE, the Middle East, Europe and, of course, from the Ugandans also. Our agriculture is very strong. We shall shift it to irrigation. The strong UPDF and other security forces, guarantee peace.

Therefore, the parasites are resorting to online black-mailers. Write bad stories about the good investors like Sheikh Maktoum so that they run away scared by the controversy. Ugandans should recognize these blackmailers. Sometimes, they even demand money: “Pay us if you do not want us to write bad stories about you”.
