A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the entire Delmarva Peninsula in effect until 9PM tonight. This meaning atmospheric conditions are supportive of strong to severe thunderstorms. Stay weather aware!
SPC Mesoscale Discussion: A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is likely in parts of the Mid-Atlantic within the next couple of hours. Severe weather potential gradually increasing.
The airmass has destabilized with sunshine, temps around 90 and dewpoints around 70 on Delmarva. As the showers and thunderstorms out west approach later this evening over the next few hours, we'll have to see if they can strengthen. Not too much reason to believe they won't.
Monday will be humid and very warm, and most of the day is going to be dry! It will also become increasingly breezy into the afternoon with 30+ mph. By the evening, look out for scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some storms can be strong to severe!
Monday, we'll notice a big uptick in humidity. Most of the day is going to be dry, but by the evening into the overnight there will be a chance for scattered showers and storms. Not every town may not see much rain later Monday. While some other towns may get a heavy storm!
What a great Saturday evening in progress at Rehoboth Beach. Warm and comfortable, just a few scattered clouds looking west. Love having that illuminated sky as late as 9 PM this time of year!
Father's Day weekend is looking great with not only 80s, but low humidity values as well so it will be a comfortable stretch! There will be a weak disturbance Saturday night that will bring in a few extra clouds and possible sprinkles. Should move out in time for Father's Day!
Some desperately need showers this morning, though not for everyone. Rain was mainly confined to areas of the lower shore. Only lighter rain just north of that. Radar estimations also suggest there are pockets of totals over 1" mainly in Somerset and Worcester Counties!
Interestingly enough, there is a level one risk for a strong thunderstorm Wednesday MORNING. With a warm front lifting through, there could a few showers and maybe a rouge thunderstorm as well. It would not be surprising for one of these to produce gusty winds. Just a heads up!
Not only did last night's cold front drop our dewpoints significantly, but our temperatures have also dropped in a meaningful way as well. Only around 80 this afternoon across the peninsula, with dewpoints well into the 50s! Tuesday's temps similar to today. Humidity staying low!
This is the most impressive thunderstorm moving into the lower shore right now. Brighter colors on the wind velocity map indicate the potential for strong wind gusts should this hold together. No severe thunderstorm warning yet...
