What “value” actually means in Web3 teams (and why most people get it wrong)


When I first started advising projects in Web3, I noticed something strange.
Everyone kept saying:
“We need people who add value to the team.”
But when I asked them: “What does value mean to you?”
Most of them couldn’t answer clearly.
That’s when I realized
“Value” in Web3 is one of the most misunderstood concepts.

Here’s the truth:
👉🏾 In Web3, value ≠ activity.
It’s not about how many tweets you post, or how many hours you sit on Discord.
Value is about impact.
It’s about how much your contribution pushes the project closer to growth, adoption, and community trust.

As an advisor, I’ve seen two types of people in teams:
🔹 The noise makers — active everywhere, but not moving the needle.
🔹 The value builders — maybe quieter, but their work compounds over time.
Guess which one founders regret not keeping?

So what does real “value” look like in Web3 teams?
👉🏾 A community manager who doesn’t just ban spammers but actually creates culture and belonging.
👉🏾 A marketer who doesn’t just chase hype but designs long-term growth loops.
👉🏾 A designer who makes memes that turn into an identity for the community.
These aren’t just tasks
They’re multipliers.

Value is also contextual.
In some teams, value might mean onboarding the right KOLs.
In others, it’s building retention systems so users don’t leave after launch.
That’s why I tell every team I advise:
“First define what value means to your project, before you go looking for it in people.”

But here’s the other side:
As a contributor, if you want to survive in Web3, you can’t just say “I work hard.”
Hard work without direction = noise.
Focused impact = value.
That’s how you become irreplaceable.

Let me be real with you:
The reason many people don’t make it in Web3 teams is because they confuse busyness with value.
If you want to stand out, stop asking:
👉🏾 “What can I do?”
Start asking:
👉🏾 “What actually moves this project forward?”

I’ve seen hype-men get forgotten overnight…
And I’ve seen quiet strategists change the entire trajectory of a project.
The difference?
Value.

So if you’re in Web3 today, whether as a founder, marketer, designer, or community builder, remember this:

👉🏾 Value is not activity.
👑 Value is impact that compounds.
And when you become a person of value, you’ll never have to chase opportunities again.
