AFRICOM’s Flintlock 2026 exercises in #Libya began yesterday. Libyan forces from east and west training alongside U.S., Italian, and other multinational forces is a hopeful sign for military integration, Libyan national unity, and a bigger role for Libya in regional security and counterterrorism. I congratulate Libyan National Army Deputy Commander Saddam Haftar and Deputy Defense Minister Abdulsalam Zubi for their leadership of this important exercise. The United States will continue to support Libyan efforts to strengthen institutions and achieve stability and lasting peace.
Today, I was pleased to meet with Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dabaiba at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. We underscored the importance of the signing of a unified national budget on April 11 and the opening of the Libya spoke of Exercise Flintlock on April 14, with the participation of a joint force of east and west Libyan special forces. We discussed how to build on these economic and military integration steps, and how the United States can best support progress toward a unification of all Libyan institutions and national elections. The United States wishes to see a stable and unified Libya fully at peace and able to focus on increasing prosperity and economic opportunity for the Libyan people and their international partners.
Good discussion with UN Special Representative for the Secretary General @HannaTetteh on advancing stability in Libya. I appreciate the UN's continued efforts to facilitate Libyan-led dialogue and national reconciliation. The U.S. continues to support efforts to empower a unified, sovereign Libya. @UNSMILibya
