Is It My Crime That I Studied?

My name is Showkat Ahmad. I am a graduate from Jammu & Kashmir, but today my degree feels like a punishment instead of an achievement.

My father is an old labourer. He spent his whole life carrying bricks, working in the sun and cold, sacrificing his health so I could study. We are a poor family with three unmarried sisters and aged parents who still look at me with hope, believing one government job could change our lives.

I appeared in many JKSSB exams. In every exam, I fell short by just a few marks. I never stopped trying because I knew my family's future depended on me.

In 2020 JKSSB MTS recruitment, I was selected, and for the first time my family celebrated with tears of happiness. But that happiness was taken away. My selection was cancelled because I was a graduate.

We fought for justice. We met the Chief Minister. We went to the High Court and even the Supreme Court. We spent years fighting, but we lost.

Now JKSSB has again notified MTS posts, and once again graduates are not eligible. The notification restricts eligibility to candidates up to 12th pass.

I want to ask one question:

Is it my fault that I studied? Is education now a disqualification?

Every night I see my father's tired hands, my mother's worried face, and my sisters waiting for their future. I don't want sympathy. I only want justice and a fair chance to compete.

Please hear the voice of educated unemployed youth of Jammu & Kashmir. Tag CM Omar Abdullah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, JKSSB, and other concerned authorities.

J&K Government, answer this: Why is a degree a qualification everywhere—except when it comes to an MTS job? Why exclude educated youth instead of letting merit decide?

A serious question for J&K’s ruling leadership?

Why is higher education being treated as a disqualification for MTS recruitment?
Why should a graduate, PG or PhD holder be denied even the right to compete?
If you truly believe in “Naya J&K” and equal opportunity, why not let MERIT decide?
Are our educated youth being punished for studying?
When unemployment is already a major concern, why create a qualification ceiling that excludes graduates and postgraduates?

Please remove the 10+2 upper limit in JKSSB MTS Advt 09/2026 so thousands of hardworking graduates get a fair chance on pure merit. @OmarAbdullah
