“A Prosperous and Great Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom”— RA Omukama Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I’s 30-Year Vision for Bunyoro.
Here are a few of the many programs launched by the Prime Minister, Owek. Andrew Byakutaga Ateenyi, to help realize the RA Omukama’s vision.
Note: The video was made in 2020, some of the officials named in the video died others left BKK while many more projects, Programs & partners were brought onboard.
1. Firstly all Banyoro know this is not about protecting the interests of the King's subjects or the kingdom. This is simply a personal war where you want to ursup the Omukama's powers and rule the Kingdom. Under the previous Omuhiikirwa, alot of Kingdom property was allegedly sold off and you are accused of being one of the individuals that enabled this to happen. So we demand accountability of all kingdom property that is said to have been sold off illegally under your watch as Okwir during that regime, before the subjects of the kingdom can engage in the other issues you have raised.
2. The Omukama is ALIVE. As long as he lives, only he can appoint & sack the Prime Minister. I am certain Omusuga wa Tooro also guided you on this last week when you went to pay your respects as the Babiito Clan. Omusuga also eventually retracted his statement on the sacking of Owek. Armstrong because he was reminded he does not have those powers. So who gives you the powers to appoint or dismiss any leader appointed by the King himself? The Prime Minister you allege to have sacked was appointed by the King himself while in good health. He is personally known to the King with a very long and trusted personal relationship with him as an individual and with the PM's family.
3. You keep refering to the Babiito having made decisions for the kingdom. To the best of my understanding, the role of the Babiito as a ruling clan is to install the rightful King and by extension an Okwir. Bunyoro as a kingdom has roughly 72 other clans with vested interest in the affairs of the kingdom, and these are all represented in the Rukurato for a purpose. So how then does it become the role of the Babiito Clan to appoint and sack the PM?
4. My advice to you would be as follows;
- Continue to engage the government through the PM Rt. Hon. @R_Nabbanja who already chaired a stakeholder's meeting in June this year (2026) at her office that included Ministers, MPs, Religious & Cultural leaders and other prominent respected individuals from Bunyoro Region. I believe you attended this meeting & the PM concluded by seeking legal interpretation from the Attorney General and Solicitor General on a way forward, specifically on the issue of appointing a Cabinet & Parliament (Rukurato), which are vacant since their term of office expired and only the King can appoint them.
The PM needs a cabinet and parliament to ease his work, but has failed to appoint either because legally he is not allowed to, and doing the contrary (which you are attempting to do) would be equivalent to overthrowing the king and ursuping his powers.
- If the PM leaves (as you demand - for no clear reason), then as subjects we also request that you relinquish your position as Okwir because this now appears to be a personal conflict. Let a younger vibrant person from the Babiito Clan, who truely has the kingdom at heart step into your shoes. You say the PM has been in office for so long (since January 2018), and yet he found you already occupying the Okwir position (which is not an issue to me considering this particular position is held in perpetuity). Perhaps you should consider your own advice. For debate sake, the PM of Buganda was appointed in 2013.
- Hoima City (Bunyoro) is preparing to host the AFCON in under a year's time. Focus your energy on working with the PM to promote development and make sure our people are positioned to benefit from this rare opportunity. We are crying out for help to renovate our Gasani (King's Burial Grounds).
Let the parliament proposed cultural leader's stipend & rumoured oil royalties not bring the kingdom to its knees.
President H.E @KagutaMuseveni has already been brought to speed on these issues by Bunyoro Cabinet Ministers including Hon. @BalaamBarugahar. Allow them time to guide instead of instigating our young people. Let's be patient but also grateful for the little other leaders have contributed.
As Banyoro-Batooro say - "Entasiima ebura agyongera."
